An AE86 Toyota? An R32 Skyline? A JDM Toyota Starlet GT?! Yes, this is the New York International Auto Show.
Yes, it displays many of the latest and greatest from the automakers. But, the hidden gem of the show is buried below the main stage, with an incredible selection of imports from years past courtesy of something called the …

A day or two before the show, I got a note: check out the basement.
Could the cars down there be as good as hoped? I admit, hitting the lower level was a bit of a last-minute decision. We had completed our meetings and some time to kill.
Dang. Not everything was JDM, but I’d say that everything was cool.
Some more pics.
More cars wearing wheels from the Rays catalog:
Air-cooled 911 with a Rennline roof rack? (And sorry about the baricades–didn’t think we could remove them.)
E30-chassis M3. It looked that clean. All the lip, too.
I do have a soft spot for Civic hatches.
And if you have Subarus, you have to showcase some Evos, too, right?
Sherwin Pacquette’s Evo, too.
How do we like the slope-nose treatment on a water-cooled 911?
The amount of tuner cars on the first level was seriously impressive. Some are quite the finds.

That was a good selection of photos and thanks for the extras, David! So many candies to choose from; what an assortment. The slant-nose/slope-nose conversion on the water-cooled Porsche was cool to see because I loved the ones from the 1980's--remember those?
The EK Type R Civic was extra-special to see. You see JDM Type R Integras but not many Civics.
In reply to DavyZ :
Totally remember those. One of our locals had a legit DP slant-nose cab: white over red with white BBS wheels.
How about a few more from the basement?
Rebodied Fiero or legit Jaguar XJ220? (Correct answer: One of the three Jaguar XJ220-N cars built.)
And equally impressive: very original 1991 Honda CRX Si.
One for the low rider fans:
Oh yeah, gotta share this: E30 BMW M3 convertible.

That Porsche looks like a kit car for a Bug chassis. A little too much fiberglass
Yeah, it’s close. Maybe higher grades for idea than execution?
That's my buddies CTR in the Rays booth, gonna check out tomorrow. I saw that Exedy time attack Evo on the road a month or so ago up by Minnewaska/New Paltz.
In reply to fatallightning :
Clean Civic and it looked good in the booth.
Well damn, I was in NYC last week and walked and/or Uber'd past the convention center about a dozen times. Had I been alone I probably would have gone, but being with the gf and having no idea it was even happening, I never even thought about going. Still not sorry, but maybe next year...
In reply to NorseDave :
Well bummer! Maybe next year.
And some more photos from the Rays wheel display because #te37allthings.
One more Volk Racing TE37 photo:
Personally, I loved the vintage police car display. I miss the all-blue NYPD vehicles.
I guess I spent too much time looking at the Volks as I missed the police cars.
I think they were tucked in the to EV corner.
