Oh boy. Reminds me of my old MK3 Supra. I did some research after I asked that question and it turns out the bolts stretch over time. Some people replace with studs without even changing the gasket out.
Quick update - I've decided to not go ahead with this Type R. I like it, but I don't love it enough to immediately start throwing parts at it.
A new FL5 even at MSRP is way more than I want to spend, so that's out. Still cross shopping with GTIs and Golf Rs, so I'm keeping an eye out for unmodified versions of either at CarMax.
