I'm still on the hunt for a fun DD. Pretty sure it's going to be a Fiesta ST, but am still looking at options. Any driven one of these with the newer setup? All the threads I managed to find that covered the four cylinder were about the old, lower-powered version. Has the extra power made the 2.0 a viable performance choice, or is the 3.8 still where it's at?

Also, how's the aftermarket for these cars developing?

My buddy has one. He's done a bit of work to it.

In short, with the 2.0T, you can make close to 330whp with bolt ons/a tune and 300+wtq at very low rpms.

Nothing short of a v6 mustang has the $$/performance ratio out there, and the Genesis with the tubro can be made even better. If you don't want to put aftermarket parts on, the V6 is a very good way to go for out of the box performance. Oh, and the 2.0T is direct injected. My friend (with a heavy foot) is averaging 25usmpg easily between in-city and highway driving. It'll cruise on the highway getting 35usmpg (blows my mind).

My only issue is that the car is pretty useless for anything besides having fun and transportation of two people. 4 adults is impossible, and the trunk doesn't hold much. Personally, I'd go with the Genesis so to say I support rwd cars, but the Fiesta is tempting for it's versatility. Of course, I also have a truck, so the car realllly doesn't need to do anything more than get good daily driving mpg.

My brothers shop had a dyno day for a bunch of genesiss (genesi?)

He was blown away when so many of the 2.0 threw down 320+

I've been rehabbing a minivan, so in theory, I don't really need a lot of space. Honestly, the biggest negative I see with the Hyundai is it's fairly large footprint. I like small, nimble cars.

I also drove a FR-S and it was decent, it didn't call to me too much. Heck, the Focus ST I drove was about as big as I wanted to go, but I am still thinking about the bigger cars, mainly the Genesis.

Not big, but just big compared to what I've been looking at...

It's a lot bigger than I thought/hoped it would be, but I wouldn't call it a 'big car'. It's a lot smaller than, say, a challenger.

FWIW, for the year or so we had my wife's 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited with the TGDI 2.0, one of the few things we didn't have trouble with was the engine. Something like 274 HP on tap with surprising mid-30's fuel economy if you kept your foot out of it. Too bad the rest of the car fell so far short.

The chassis is a lot of fun. Spent some time in an R-Spec (2010) with the lesser 2.0. It was an absolute ball to toss around. What it lacked was about 50-60hp and some more front tire.

Hmm, I think I may try to take one for a test drive before committing to another car. Just need to wait til weather improves a bit. The usual attitude is to go with the manual over the auto, but whats the conventional wisdom on this car? I'm fine with either transmission, but would probably have to get the 2.0T, I think the 3.8 is out of my current price range.

Oh, and this is the smallest of the "big" cars on my list. The other three under consideration are leftover 2013 Mustang GTs (can get a loaded one cheaper than a stripped 2014), the Honda Accord Coupe, and oddly enough, the Dodge Charger R/T. None of them are likely candidates, though.

I've not driven the auto 4-banger, but I can't see it as being a good thing personally.

5.0 - I went to a track day hosted by a local mustang club last weekend and was surprised by some of the lap times they were doing. As a matter of fact I almost purchased one before my cts-v. I also looked at Genesis coupes and I still love those cars but I would take a 5.0 any day of the week over a genesis coupe.

I've driven both the stick and auto 4 banger. The auto actually isn't bad at all. The 8 speed really let's you keep the revs up and the turbo doing its magic. When I drove the stick, if you were driving it at less than 100% each shift would drop you just a little to far and there would be a half second before the turbo really got working. Not so with the auto with 2 more gears
