While I am only 1 year in on the current Integra Chumpcar (for a brief history go here, ) like any addict I am already thinking about the next one.

While I appreciate the oddball cars, I want to stick with platforms that are known for popularity, durability, cost effectiveness and performance. Im not really wanting to blaze new territory, I will save that for the next go-around.

Currently I am thinking either E36 or SC300 with a build over the next year. Im not 100% sure its what I am going to do right away. Im still tossing the idea around. Part of it depends on if the right deal comes along, part of it depends on how long I think building a second racecar is a good idea.

Am I mad? Am I forgetting about an even better platform?

Manual SC300's are pretty rare, especially in chump car price range.

If you're going to run chumpcar, I would look at something american - they tend to be really undervalued. I was really considering a thunderbird or lincoln Mk8 with a manual swap.

Also, if you're not in a big hurry, you might want to ping the guys running the show and see when the next rule book is due out. I think there's the potential for a new one with significant changes for 2017. So, if you start a build now and it takes a year, you could get caught out by the time you're ready to run.

We have a manual SC300 that is undergoing a very slow build. SC300s are very competitive.

Screw the rule book and run the EC class. Obsessing over the rules and sanctioned cheating vs unsanctioned cheating made us decide to go EC. We will have a fast car that handles, is safe and fun to drive.

Or go E36. My personal track car is a '95 M3. You can build one of these way easier than an SC300. Parts availability for the 3 series is light years ahead of the SC. Unless you are building a turbo drag car... Road racing, not so much.

Popularity: as far as parts and aftermarket support goes I'd go with the BMW.

I'm not biased at all either

I downloaded the 2016 rules the day they were posted. Luckily the only change that effects the current car is that one of my rental drivers has to use a head and neck restraint. I tried to get him to use one this year but he is a dirt track guy and wanted to use his neck donut.

Im not too worried about rule changes effecting me much in the future. I try to keep the cars as basic as possible and dont try to find the rules loopholes.

The biggest thing with building the next car is I want to do the cage myself. After dealing with some frustrating cage builders I am 100% confident that if they can do it, I can do it. It might just take a little longer. Thats why I am thinking I will build the next car in the background while we compete with the current one. All this is subject to change if there is another bad wreck similar to what happened to the first car.

Plus, I really have a lot of fun building the cars.

You name the time next weekend and the wife and I will come and check your 318 out. Her opinion is pretty important since she is the fastest driver on the team.

$500 reference was my failed attempt on being Facetious.
