Ok, it may not be "technically" as good as iRacing, but OMG...

Gran Turismo 5 Trailer

From the "oh, and this too" department...

The lesser Forza 3

Can you guess which 1 I will be waiting in line for?

I agree, GT5 is certainly prettier. But I just can't justify $500 for a console for one game

Owned GT2 ,GT3, and played GT4 fairly extensively.

Forza has always been better.

The GT's may have 9563 cars 150+ tracks but the driving dynamics were always worse.

Also i never could enjoy the GT's without a wheel, both forza's do OK with just the controller.

GT5 does look better, I have think F3 would still be the gamers choice. The GT games seme to put more eforts in to what the game looks like rather feels like. Thats why I would go with F3. Yes I know there on diffrent consoles.

Hmmm...that's a tough call.

Up until Gran Turismo 4, I liked the "feel" of GT. With the 4th iteration it did seem to get a little more numb.

One thing I hated about Gran Turismo was the lack of damage. It didn't make any sense that you could push and ram people out of the way...oh and the lack of online multiplayer was a deal breaker as well.

It definitely seems as though GT5 has raised the bar, with multiple forms of licensed racing (WRC, Nascar, LeMans), but will this be enough to warrant the price of PS3? Especially when I have my 360 sitting right here?

I guess we'll find out here in a few months.

Well, dunno if its enough to win you over... but PS3 will also play blue ray movies, allow you to purchase and download movies online, stream movies off your computer, run linux AND play GT5 :P

Course 360 can do most of those. Not run linux or work as Blu-ray, tho. I loved GT 2, 3, and 4 but I did pick up the 360 for forza 2, mostly cause I wanted my fix for a racing game I was buying the week after forza hit stores. Now two years later I'm still playing Forza and still waiting for GT 5.

Aaaaahhhh! Citti Di Aria! My nightmares are returning!

I just discovered Forza 2, and love it. I'm an old GT player as well, and really like the tracks/cars in GT4 much better. That being said, I don't mind the damage in Forza, since the AI isn't as mind-numbingly stupid as in GT. And the paint program is seriously cool! Also, I find the vehicle dynamics are actually better in Forza, but I guess that shouldn't be surprising since it's on a next gen machine.

I love the GT franchise, and I'm hoping 5 is everything I've been hoping for all this time...but if there ain't a way to switch all the NASCAR stuff off (or get B-Spec Bob to run it for me), I'll consider all that money spent on a PS3 to be wasted.

OTOH, I haven't heard anything about adding rally to Forza 3...what to do, what to do..

Has anyone else played PD's "Tourist Trophy"? Man, I'd love to see a sequel to that on a next gen console!

There's one place that Forza absolutely trumps GT - motor swaps.

I love that I can buy a USDM 240SX, and do a SR20DET swap (but if I buy the JDM Silvia, it already has the SR)

In Forza 2, I love making rediculous cars, my most recent is a CTS-V with an turbo LS7 swap. I can almost drive it with adjustable aero set to max front and rear, hahaha.

In Gran Turismo, it let me do an ECU tune on a '67 GT-500. Um, no. That was a total turn-off for me.

Citti Di Aria was awesome...Forza needs an incredibly tight, frustratingly tight course with random walls that jut into the track...so much fun

Oh come on guys! I check the board before bed and your really making me miss GT4 and TT was awesome too. Of course as another Polyphony Digital title it too would be on PS3. Rumors that I have heard for Forza 3 do point to drags and hillclimbs but no word on rally.

Was a GT fan through 1 to 4.

Then i played Forza.

I play Forza for realisim and gameplay.

If i want graphics, I race in real life.

I never finshed GT4, but the driving physics in GT5:P are much improved over GT4. The steering feel is back and not everything understeers terminally at all control inputs.

The new trailer looks promising, but it's all going to come down to the racing. Many of the racing formats in GT5:P suck, but I'm not judging the real game until I get the real game.

Online is going to matter too - here's hoping they implement it well.

i have both systems (GF bought the xbox, i bought the PS3) and I certainly enjoy Forza2 more than Gran Tourismo prologue. In the past though, i was always a fan of the GT series.

Chances are Forza3 will come out first. And thats gonna be my deciding factor. I've waited 2 years for GT5...how many more must i wait?

I honestly don't have much problem with understeer on GT4.

Yeah, everything understeers at the limit if you have the traction control crap on, but trust me, i have no problems oversteering EVERY turn in my 984hp Pagani Zonda.

Funny you mention that..I really did come to love Citti Di Aria. Even though it's so tight, it's seriously fun once you get the rhythm down and find some good braking markers. My "nightmare" joke was from all the time I spent learing my way around the thing in that license test with the Alfa.

The courses I can't stand on Forza are all the ones named after snakes. Especially the full length one. Although they're tight, they seem artificially restricted to me, like an old Malibu Gran Prix cart track. As much as I'm enjoying Forza, I have to give the edge to GT on the `fictional' tracks. They feel more like "real" racetracks somehow. The ones in Forza are almost cartoonish, like those in the Konami game (Enthusia?). I actually liked the way the cars handled in the Konami game, but the tracks all felt like I'd picked up a copy of "Need for Speed" by accident.

And I gotta stand my my comment about how amazingly stupid the (alleged) AI cars are in the GT franchise. One of the reasons I'm becoming a Forza fan is that you can actually dice a lil' bit with the other cars, rather than having to make a great start and drive away from them. Back when I posted over at GTPlanet a lot, there was a thread actually started by a Sony guy asking if we wanted damage in GT5. I said, "..not unless you teach the AI to drive..".

Oh agreed, I hate the test track in Forza 2. Didn't care for it in Forza 1 that much either, but at least they didn't put you there very often.

And I loved the point-to-point races that they had in the first one, but got rid of in the 2nd. Getting the AE86 Trueno Apex Edition, slamming it, and driving down Fujimi Kaido was living the Initial Dream.

GT has always had the edge on tracks over Forza, they left out my favorite Forza 1 track from Forza 2, some mountain track that i would spend hours going up and down. Forza 3 defiantly needs more elevation changes in their tracks.

I've only gotten a little bit of seat time in forza, but i prefer the feel / driving in GT4 with a controller.

Maybe if i could use my G25 with forza i'd like it better.
