Very soon Mazda is going to unveil the next MX-5 Miata. I'll be there in person.

So, what are you hoping for?

http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/news/new-generation-miata-unveiling/

More power? Less weight? Laser beams?

Go.

I'll be there too!

And even better, I'll be there for the weekend when we have over 1700 Miatas, two days at Laguna Seca, a Spec Miata/SuperMiata race, parade laps, a movie, free food, Q&A sessions with the Miata creators, etc.

I'm hoping for a great looking body to cover the drivetrain we've already seen.

Please God....make the stupid front fender eyebrows that Mazda has been putting on all their cars go away!

It would probably make more sense to look at recent releases. The RX8 first showed up 13 years ago!

If they're making hatchbacks and generic sedans look this good, it does bode well for the sports car.

There's a Mazda6 in my driveway right now. It's a pretty car.

Idling in Atlanta traffic tonight I caught myself looking at an Acura Legend.. Thinking it's subtle flares looked so much better than the pancake look...

I would do terrible things for that wagon.

I'm hoping for lighter and more NA like. And an available soft top.

Expect 2500 and 200, you'll be closer to the mark.

Hmm. With those specs I probably want to wait another couple of weeks before I make up my mind about pulling the trigger on a 996...

I'm looking for them to have a base suspension package that can work well for the 20-30 year old women and a sport package that has stiffer suspension so even its critics will say that it's a great sports car, not just a great platform.

Oh, and I'm also looking for a somewhat aggressive styling so it can sell more than the NC.

There is a half-assed spy shot of what might be the new Miata floating around (Jalopnik or Hooniverse.)

I only saw the rear view.

I want less weight.

A roof. I still don't like cars with floppy tops. I like roofs.

Yes call it a Miata or if the marketing guys feel shunned let them rename it whatever just do it.

My NA was only driven once without the hardtop to reaffirm my dislike of open air driving. I kept it on all the time.

Currently have a go for mission planning for a new car for me in 2017. Currently it is all about the 86 twins unless......

A retractable hard top that you can fit a roll bar underneath again would be nice.

I want a modern version of this:

200ish HP at the wheels if its going to weigh 2500lbs.
Mazdaspeed or trim package with the better suspension upgrades.
Easy to modify ECU.
Option for a 13b-REW

Hmm unordered list markup language works in the preview but not after I posted...

Less weight and better styling. Apologies to any NC owners out there but to me the current Miata is "U-G-L-Y, you UGLY!" to me. I really hope Mazda doesn't force the company face from the 3 and 6 on the MX-5 but they probably will. Oh well, if they do blow it maybe the Fiat/Alfa version will be better looking.

A hatchback version would be nice too.

True front-mid engine layout (e.g. whole engine behind front axle, not Cg of engine behind the axle), enabling 50% or less of the car's weight on front axle with avg driver installed.

I heard that when the new model comes out of the closet, it will have all that PLUS:

A third row seat. No second row, just first and third. And it will have more wings. On spoilers, wings on spoilers. And a diesel engine that can run on tears, you get more torques that way. It will get at least 50 mpgs when you switch into twd (that's 3-wheel drive, allows you to have fun by letting one wheel spin at all times. The true purist can take that feel to the next level by choosing the ultra-rare, unlimited-slip differential.

The mid-model refresh is rumored to bring a new soft-top-hard-top option with a tightly curled yet wet looking fabric known as the "Landau Calrissian Roof" and also an autonomous version with GPS based guidance system programmed by mother-in-laws to take you where they think you should go, the "Yououghta".

As always, Mazda will support the racing community. After testing new fenders and bumpers with electromagnets designed to prevent contact in Spec Pinata races proved to be uneconomical due to weight, cost and power draw - new Pita-bread based body panels were co-developed with Subaru that can be made in the 3-D printer/bread maker unit that is located where the second row isn't(Rye-Active Technology). Subaru's panels will be Gluten-free.

A special hybrid model, seen below - the HoMoX-5exual edition is to be introduced in California emissions/non-DOMA states.

Mazda if you are reading this I have the easy button for you. Take the already designed FD and add a 250-275 HP motor (that has a turbo) netting you 200-225 at the tires.

Make an all aluminum V6 optional that nets you 300 HP at the wheels.

Implement the suspension options noted previously in this thread.
