Sorry to be such a pest lately. This is the first time I've been this far into a V8.

Valve umbrellas were prematurely deteriorating causing smoke. They were a grey color which is weird since my investigating led to look for either black, brown or blue to determine what material they were. Not breaking apart (yet) but getting soft and floppy. Popped off the first spring to see that the guide boss didn't look like the original casting which I understand is supposed to be a cast raised, well, nipple. Instead I see this:

Have they been turned for captured valve seals? Is it worth it to order the captured seals or go on with the new poly acrylic umbrella seals I got from Alex's Parts?

Thanks!

Just noticed, if you look close at the spring behind it you can see the old umbrella stuck to the top of the top of the valve stem, just under the retainer, thus my original dilemma.
