I run the Nitto NT01 on my Miata all the time. Today, while picking up lunch, a guy walking past me said, "nice tires." So, I'm not sure if he was commenting on the lack of tread--let the record reflect that they're still very close to full tread depth--or did he just recognize a corner-carving tire when he saw it?
i get that all the time. it can go either way.

What's your preferred source for the NT01s? Clicking on the banner got me through to confirm that TR still doesn't carry them, and I need (OK, want) a set for track tires this year.
I got that a lot with my Baja Claws on the Ram. They looked bad ass.
with all the new cars coming out on 19s and above.. I doubt anybody is going to look at my 17" starspecs and think they are nice
Had a tech at a goodyear tire shop insist that my full tread depth RE11's were bald and illegal.
Some people out there...
I had pulled in trying to get a leak diagnosed and fixed, instead limped >10 miles to a shop that sold B-stones. Tech there was an autocrosser, ended up with every tech at that shop under my car on the lift admiring my suspension setup (Koni, ground control, RB sway, etc). (ended up being a valvestem)
I'm sure it was a complement. Many easier ways to put down a Miata :)

"Is that your grandpa's car, your wife's or your boyfriend's?" comes to mind, or even a simple "cute car". I'm sure it was complement too.

Sometimes it's as subtle as a judging look.
Back in the day I had some Yokohama R-comps on my street car on a really hot summer day to heat cycle them (probably does nothing, but I was really gung-ho about autocross back then), and some ricer thought they were pretty cool. "Those look like superbike tires, yo!" "Uh, thanks."
And I've been made fun of driving a Miata before. You'll know. People that insult other people over a car are rarely subtle.
I daily drive on Toyo R888's in the summer and get weird looks from people pretty often.
I guess there aren't that many racers around here.
i think he was hitting on you...
That is a common term in the GLT community, meaning that he/she felt that you had a nice rear end.

I figured that was what was happening when I got complemented on my aftermarket exhaust.

treadzone has them ( at least the list them )

I too check out other peoples cars and see what they have for tires. It's gotta be a car guy thing.
^ I do that too sometimes. Maybe it's an OCD thing, because I would never let my car drive on corded, totally mismatched, or cheapo knock-off tires, which I see all the time.
I've had compliments on the RT-615s I had on my old Impreza, the Star Specs for my RX-7, and the Sumitomo HTR-Z III tires for my Mazdaspeed3. I guess I know how to pick 'em.
I complimented the Michelins on the Mazda2 at Daytona...
