So, is anyone else getting a car together? I had picked out a nice Maxima, but it was sold before I could get it. So, now I have a Saturn SL2. Hope the plastic holds together.....

They used to run a milder tamer version of this at our local speedway. School bus racing, thunder and lightning cars, demo derby and so on. Loved watching it. Then the yuppie neighbors shut down the track because it was too noisy. It didn't matter that the track had been there for twenty years before the first house was built.
Poor Saturn.
I assume the Night of Destruction is a demo derby at the local dirt track?
I would've given you my old Maxima...if it ran, you know, ever.
Sorry, the details were all in the previous Night of Destruction thread. I'll put a short list at the end of this post.
Twin Cam... If it ran, ever, I'd still take the Maxima. That's actually what I was looking for. Don't mourn the death of the Saturn. It's ready.
Duke, do you have a car?
Details: It begins with an Enduro race. Basically a normal race but with a MUCH higher contact rate. Then there is a skidplate race, where the rear tires are removed (FWD cars) and skids are welded to the wheels. Wild, crazy stuff. Last time there was a flagpole race, where they placed a pole in the middle of turn 3-4 that you had to circle around. The led to a good number of T-bone wrecks, including my full-size dodge van, which had the side caved in about 3 1/2 FEET. Thanks Toronado! Then there is the chain race..... chain two cars together. I think only the lead car is running, not sure. There's a roller derby race.... three cars per team: Two running cars, one dead. The running car pushes the dead car, and the other running car tries to knock out the other teams. THAT should make for some definate carnage. There's the boat race, where all the cars race pulling boats. Or campers. Notice I did NOT say boat trailers. There ARE NO trailers. It was great fun drifting that 5000lb van around the turns at 50-55mph or so as the boat carried the @$$ end around.
Oh, there's also going to be some sort of motorcycle stunt show, and there's the demolition derby to finish off whatever still happens to be running.

That is so full of win I nearly spit my drink all over the keyboard.
Look for it on youtube, you'll find some. If you were closer I'd say to come on out! The promotor actually travels through several states putting these events together. There may be one near you. Just don't die.

THAT HAS TO BE THE BEST ADVICE EVER GIVEN BY ANY BOARD MEMBER!!!
Come hang out in the pits if you like. Or I can probably still find you a car if you have $200-250 to waste. You'd get most of it back when you take it to the scrapyard.
Mike
I race a Saturn SL1 in Enduro races... only because it was a free car. But I won my class last time out. (8cylinders and scored separately from the 4/6 cylinders)

can i just walk into the pits area? On the side of turn 3/4 right?
Gotta buy a pit pass. Probably runs about $10 more, but you need to get it when you first get there, and not try to upgrade later. You get those from the small building/trailer set up just past the pit entrance fence.
Mike
right on, might just do that. We usually get to the track at like 3pm, give us some time to park up on the hill, watch qualifying...
I'm not sure if there are any support divisions racing at all this time, so you might want to check on that before going. I don't know what time I will get there. The past two times I was there around 11AM, but I don't think I need to get there that early this time.
Similar events are run at Dixie Speedway Birch Run MI. A crowd pleaser is the school bus figure 8. One night the track was plunged into darkness when the "God Hates A Coward" church bus came through the wall in to the spectator area. It knocked the power to the track lighting out. The crowd loved it.
