These are the people who used to buy inexpensive, base Rangers and have switched to Frontiers.
They have Chevy Sparks and Nissan Versas since nobody sells a minitruck anymore.

The Ranger/F150 are much the same sizes.
I just traded my full size Ram for a Colorado. That 7” saved in width didn’t hurt interior wise and it feels like feet narrower when parking in a city. The Ram never fit well in parking. I also wanted 4WD again for camping trips etc. I also wanted 7,000 lbs towing. Then the local dealer had the truck listed for $7k less than sticker.....
I actually have a spreadsheet listing all the dimensions, towing capacities and ratings for all of these trucks.
These new midsize trucks are just as big and beefy and can tow more than trucks two generations ago.
My Colorado Z71 can beat a CK 454 SS or 1st gen Lightning in the 1/4 mile with ease, carry more cargo and tow more..... I’m also averaging over 17 mpg in town. These new midsize trucks have a lot to offer.

I think the issue is supply, not desirability. I've wanted to try one for a while, but it doesn't seem like any dealers near me have any in stock.

Here in central Ohio it seems like all the dealers have 4-5.

Come down to Hampton, they everywhere here. Also just got back from some country near the Arabian Gulf....lots of them overthere as well of course. Same with the Hilux, Prado, Land Cruiser, Hiace's, Armadas, etc. I did see a Renault Meganne RR.
I drove a manual Ranger while I was over there. It was gutless but a base model with a bunch of dudes and gear in it. I enjoyed the Toyota Hiace van more; but, that's because when you hit a bump at speed in the Hiace you could enter the stratosphere.
I'm leaving the Gulf tonight. If I never see another white, four-door Hilux again, it'll be too soon. I'd say the same for white Elantras and Sonatas, but I know better. At least they won't have the plastic wrapping on them still.
