On the crawl on Speed today, Nissan announced that they are returning to Austrailian V8 Supercars in 2013. They will conform to the current rules, so it will be a 5.0 liter V8, RWD, very similar to the current cars.

The big problem I saw with those two were of being WAY overpriced for what you got, IMO.

I can't be the only one who thinks there's a market for a kit to rip out the GTR's $1000-an-oil-change glass transmission and transfer case, and replace it with a T56, or even a Chrysler A727.

I heard all the big series are going to a NASCAR-like format now to allow a global cost cutting on car builds. AussieV8, F1, DTM and I think maybe BTCC might all use a universal chassis for their series.

I'd imagine that a large part of it is that Ford would want to avoid the kind of line muddling that has plagued GM.
They already have a decent line up cars in the US, based on the Mazda 2, the Focus, the Mazda 6, and the Volvo S80. Where would the Falcon fit in? Or: where would it fit in where it wouldn't compete with the Mustang? It makes no sense to have a car whose main purpose is to lure people away from something else that they already sell. It takes away from the economies of scale.

IRS is great if you're trying to squeeze out as much interior room as possible.
Important for a family sedan, not so much for a performance car.
Notice that Ford's family sedans all have IRS, all Mustangs are solid axle.

i saw dealers that were trying to move GTO's off the lots for $25k to make room for cars that actually sell.. of course, they dropped the price down from around the $40k they were trying to get with the "ultra super rare get one and make your neighbors jealous" premium they felt like they had to slap on top of the regular sticker price.
not that this has anything to do with Nissan or the Aussie V8 Supercar series..
does Nissan even make a production engine that fits in with the rules, or are they going to design something specifically for that series like everyone has done for NASCAR now?

Both the GTO and the G8 GT were $29,995 MSRP. ThunderCougarFalconGoat on here bought his 05 brand new for that. Many, many 04's and 06's were sold well below that as well.
