My daughter has a 2011 Nissan Versa SL 1.8 and she says that it will not start sometimes. She has a new battery and had the starter and alternator checked and was told they are okay. I have not witnessed this but she says that sometimes when she turn the key to start nothing happens. If she holds the key in the start position after a few seconds it will crank and start, but not always. Sometimes she has to cycle the switch several times before it will crank. Does this sound like an ignition switch or do these have a start relay going out? It has 150k on it and she has had it serviced regularly. It's been a good car and is still is when it starts. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like either the starter brushes or starter solenoid are just starting to get worn out, it should get bad enough for the shop to easily reproduce the problem soon enough...

About the right time for a starter to be failing.

We got 11 years out of our Versa before donating it to a family member. For all the fun people make of the Versa, it was a workhorse that never missed a beat. Oil,gas and brakes was all she asked for.

Finally got schedules to match up and replaced the  starter. About an hour and a couple hundred bucks and it starts just like new.
