I am always too nervous and excited to sleep well the night before.

Infineon was a ton of fun yesterday. Last session ended up paced with another guy in a Miata, who he and I were about perfectly matched, and kept going back and forth whenever the other would make a mistake. My favorite was when he tried to pass me inside going into the final hair pin - but lost traction and started to oversteer - so I walked around him on the outside with a couple MPH advantage doing down the front strait.

Sounds awesome! I dream about the day I can finally get back to a track day. I am sure I won't sleep for a week once I do get to go again.

Me too, always get wound up, even before an Autocross, but it is so worth it.

He started to understeer to the inside of you at 11? If you were on the outside wouldn't that mean that he crunched in to you?

Fun track, I liked it more than Thunderhill.

No, he started to oversteer on the inside of 11. I don't think he realized just how slippery the paint is at that track, and especially right at 11.

I really like Infineon. It is definitely more fun that T-hill, especially in a momentum car, like the Miata. I like Laguna Seca best of the three though.

For me, trackdays are like a drug, hard to stay away, though since I've never used drugs I'm just guessing.

Ditto on the comments about a magazine saying bad about a big advertiser. It's seems impossible that we'll ever see an article that says "products from our major advertiser suck, don't buy them."

One of the chief instructors taught our run group a nifty trick. Put a piece of masking tape on your windshield right in front of you, just below your normal line of site. It will bug the hell out of you, but it won't interfere with your vision. What it will do is force/remind you to keep your eyes up and look farther ahead. It worked really well.

I was the only one in my run group to try this. Everyone else was apparently too cool.

I did have one frustration with the day. Being the open-passing group, no one gave point-bys. That wasn't the big deal though. No one would back off to let other people pass. On top of that, NASA says the passer is 100% responsible for a safe pass, and that passers have to give up your line. So if you're only incrementally faster than someone, you pretty much can't pass them. I would constantly be a bit faster than someone in one turn, and start to edge up on them, only to get shoved to the side of the track as they continued to go for the apex of the next turn. You either had to be a lot faster than someone to pass, or (in my opinion) be driving too aggressively for an HPDE.

Only because it's closer, from the south. I would take T-Hill over Infineon every time, I only have about 110 hp in my bmw 2002. T-Hill has alot more run off area's and many more area's to pass vs Infineon which has only one turn 11. Both are fun and real tracks....

Yeah... turn 10 at Infineon scares me. 100mph with 10' of dirt between you and the wall.

I like them both. Part of the appeal of Infineon is just that I don't have the opportunity to drive it nearly as often.

My wife's cousin and I drive 95 Miata's. Mine is more modified, he's a faster driver. We swap back and forth, and get some great video. It makes the day a lot more fun to have someone you trust to lead follow and have similar speeds.

Yea, I can never sleep well before a track weekend unless I get to the track on Friday night and camp out in the paddock. For some reason, when I'm already there and there's no worries about getting up or getting to tech on time and it's dark and there's no distractions, I sleep great.

It's kinda funny... I just did my second auto-x... for whatever reason, I don't get nervous or can't sleep... probably because I'm constantly comparing it to the DH racing I did in the past... and well... auto-x is simply a lot less stressfull to me... probably has something to do with a LOT less risk involved... Just the idea of riding DH again (just riding - not racing), makes me a bit nervous... sicne I know there's a 50:50 chance I'll be limping come Monday morning...
