Awww...I can't hate y'all...I probably would have done it without you anyway...

Big thanks to the folks who replied to my original thread...you didn't so much push me off the riverbank as much as you taught me how to start swimming once I fell in the river..

Hopefully, I've finally learned to attach a photo album to the "see other pictures" link on RR. Pics of how much work I have ahead of me is there..

ROFL! I was about to say "yeah, right in the wallet", but so much stuff is NLA that I've only managed about $170 right now.

Weird thing is..we're renting. But I like the garage so much (the rest of the "house" has a few problems) that I might actually talk about buying the place. The owner wants to sell it, and only rented it out because the RE agent said it'd be better if someone was living in it.

When they checked my credit, they got really excited. I've got some cred problems, but they still think they could get me an FHA loan or something. Now if I could just save up for a down payment, instead of blowing all my money on cars...

I discovered today that the motor is frozen, but the floors/rocker panels/shock towers are so damn clean (for an 80s Alfa) that I still consider myself a "complete bastard".

Rusty, don't you and maroon92 (and a couple others) live in Atlanta Metro? If I can't unfreeze the engine, I'm gonna need a couple of extra hands after I find an engine to throw in until I can rebuild this one. And the g/f's truck is an SUV. I've got no way to bring even a rented hoist over here right now..

ROFL! I haven't rebuilt any engine in more than 20yrs, and that was a BMW M10. A lot less complicated than this piece of Italian sculpture in front of me.

Aw, I screwed up! I forgot the schedule..and all because I've been playing around with a berkeleying antique! I'm going to request the time off (I work most weekends), but don't know if I'll get it.

You must be driving a diesel Chevette with an AM radio if you want to co-drive with my slow as BMW E36 backside...but of course, if you're quick, you may be able to help me find where I'm so slow. I'm an old circuit racer, and lose entire seconds by forgetting there are no real straights, and that I have to keep off the stinking brakes. The car is probably better than I am at the moment...even on full tread real street tires (Toyo Proxess TPT). If I can't make Pts. #8, I'm going to make sure I catch Pts. #9.

Maroon, are you on the Atlanta Region Solo forum yet?

I also just bought a 1986 GTV6 and love it. If you need any help with sourcing parts and the such let me know. These cars when sorted are amazing, terrific handling and brakes and the engine is glorious. You are compelled to put the windows down when going thru a tunnel. I let our Associate Publisher Joe Gearin drive mine at Road America 2 weeks ago and he starter to wonder if he should get rid of his E36 M3 and get a GTV6 to replace it with. Parts are out there it just takes some hunting. We are driving the GTV6 to Monterey next week and will have it on display at Concoroso Italiano, our party at Baja Cantina and many other events. Stop by if you are there and say hi.

Wow! I've been hearing how good they handle. Y'know, I remember seeing them when they were new and thinking they were neat cars (GT addict since childhood, other kids had Countach posters on their wall, but I had a DB-4 up on mine) but I've never driven one.

I'm on the wrong coast for that, Andy, but thanks for the invite!

And yes, I now have a subscription to CM. (grin) Would it be easier to find you on the boards over there? This is the first project I've done since college, and I'm sure I'll need the help. I don't know why I took the plunge on this one, instead of something I already know (I could probably do a rust-free BMW 2002 in my sleep).

Well, maybe I do. It was less than $1500, it was five miles from my house, and it was rust-free, for an Alfa. It deserved to be rescued. The guy who had it had originally intended to restore it, but life got in his way.

Yep, I drove Andy's GTV6 and loved it! Man, the sounds that engine makes are just intoxicating. I love the Italian-ness of it too. Some of it makes no sense (like the rear seats not folding down even though it is a hatchback) but talk about character! It is a pretty badass looker too!

That said.......I'm not replacing the M3. It is just too damn good at too many things.

Congrats on your purchase! I'm more than a little jealous.

Hmmm, need a slightly used but well running GTV6 engine? You can even drive the Milano that it's installed in. And gee, wouldn't you know it, I'm in Atlanta too!! Seriously, let me know.

Thanks, Don. I think I'd be interested in that. Where are you? I'm up in Bartow now (black Corrado wouldn't pass emissions, so we moved to where there are none!) but hey-it's Atlanta, right? I drove over to Douglasville a month ago just to do the brakes on an ex-girlfriend's Sable (but I got a steak and a beer out of it..). Seems like what other people call a "day trip", we all consider a commute.

Or if I can get the time off work, perhaps you & I & Maroon can meet up at the autocross?

soloatlanta.com and look around a lil' bit. You don't have to be a member to run, but you have to cough up an extra few bucks for the "Weekend Membership" (for event insurance coverage).

Joe, try a little Craigslist dance. Doing a little research as I was considering buying the thing, I think these cars are terribly undervalued right now (of course, Andy would know much better than I about that!). I just jumped at an Alfa that wasn't "just another spyder" with no structural rust that I could see for $1300-and really, only then because I felt "sorry" for it. Charlie Brown Christmas Tree Syndrome.

Even if the motor is locked up, I can still put another used lump in it, and probably get the thing done for not much more than Challenge money. It's just about doing the work.

I'm not one of those guys that "..always wanted one of those..", but OTOH I remember them from my younger days, and always thought they were cool. I guess I'm like the dog owners who see the stray with its ribs sticking out and think "..all it needs is someone that cares!" I would have left it if it'd had the kind of rust I keep hearing about. But since it didn't...

..well, y'all know the rest.

I'm in Monroe but the spare car w/ running engine is where I work in Lithonia (just east of 285 off I-20). I've got plenty of engine parts if you ever need any. Two or 3 long blocks, heads, etc. I've lost track!

Since the transaxle takes up all the space under the rear of the car, the gastank is inside the car behind the seat, thats why its like that. lol
