Son's 100k mile Fit, the valvetrain has gotten noisy.  We've only had the car for about 7k miles and just did his second oil change with RP synthetic.  There are discussions of valve adjustments on the Fit forums and we'll tackle that this weekend.  It seemed to come on sorta suddenly, so I'm a smidge concerned it's not just an adjustment.  I think the car sat for a year before we bought it and I know my son's revved it much higher than the po, so maybe the valves are the culprit.

Anything else we should consider?  Car seems to run just fine, no CEL's or down on power, just noisy.

I've looked into this issue with my accord, which apparently fit owners have same issues. Clogged EGR ports supposedly cause a pinging issues. Maybe research on yours specifically

Are you sure the valvetrain noise is new, and not just newly noticed? They're clattery little engines even when everything is adjusted into spec.

Of its like my mom's '07 Civic or my S2000 a valve adjustment is a piece of cake. I would remove the vakve cover and at least check them.

Thanks for the replies.  I still think it may be the valves need adjusting (although a slight exhaust leak might cause it?).  He said it's definitely louder than when we bought the car and, as a former karter, I trust his ears.  He said it seems to be loudest between 2700 and 3500 rpm's.

Work is way to busy atm for he and I both, so we'll check it out this weekend.

Those Fit engines are noisy suckers. I had an 09 with a ton of miles. Valve adjustments, egr port cleaning, etc helps but it won't totally go away. A good stereo maybe the better investment.

Sell it and buy a Rio? JK I have zero solutions.

Update.  Son came by today.  I misunderstood what he was describing.  Sounds like a light rod knock.  Sigh.  Don't need that right now on top of everything else. Too bad the Fit oil pan is part of the block (from what I've seen) or I'd be looking at just dropping the pan and slapping in a new bearing.

Rob, what year Fit is it?

2008.  I was only able to listen to it for a minute or so.  Not 100% sure it's the rod, but kinda sounds that way.  When he did an oil change on it Monday, he did check the oil and he didn't find any metal in the oil or on the plug.

Been doing a bit of research between meetings and it looks like you can drop the pan (I was wrong about that).
He and I have texted back and forth on a potential a game plan for the weekend.  Hoping my stress makes me think it's worse than what it is and that it turns out to not be bad.  I need to buy a stethoscope to see if I can figure it out.

Totally out of left field but my 2008 Fit started doing something a little odd in  those same rpm ranges at about 150,000. I wa half noise half slight hesitation at partial throttle. It turned out that the coil packs and plugs were on the way out. I took another 10k for them to finally start mis-firing on 2 cylinders under heavy acceleration and throw codes. It might be related, might not.
