need to clear some new and freshly blasted aluminum engine parts to keep them from oxidizing(water pumps, intake manifolds, cylinder heads, valve covers). i've used all the parts store rattle can engine clears(dupli color, plasti kote) before with generally disappointing results, mostly yellowing in general and horrible staining from any sort of petroleum product.

is there a brand out there that'll keep my aluminum bits looking relatively new for quite some time? i'm pretty particular about doing things right the first time, so i'd hate to have the freshly bead blasted period correct intake i found for the chevelle look like crap after a year. i'm very close to the point of needing to bolt the parts to the engine. i'm almost done scrubbing the block and heads and will probably shoot the chevy orange tonight, and as soon as i do that i want to get the intake bolted on and put the engine in the corner out of the way so i can get the old stuff pulled from the car and get on the bodywork. oh yeah, the neglected chevelle build thread is going to get bumped back up if i can find it, because things are moving again!

if it's something summit racing or eastwood carry i could get it by tomorrow morning, as summit is 30 minutes away and eastwood is right by my chiropractor.

My experience with clear coat over freshly blasted aluminum has been poor. I'd leave it be, or paint it with aluminum colored engine enamel.

The POR15 guys used to have a brushed on two part clear coat for that purpose. It was said to not yellow. I have a pint jars of it still but it's twelve years old or so. I never tried it so can't really speak to it but that was it's purpose.

Seal the alum before painting with filtz, boil in hot water and dry well or best way Nickel Acetate Sealant the last step in anodizing. Then clear. You might try a non blush expoy resin thinned down. epoxy usa This guy is great! Call him, don't e-mail.
