Looks likely that my family and I will be making another move this time from california to the east coast for at least a while.
What kind of autocross/track day etc shenanigans can I get into over there? Seems like a lot of what I am seeing is at least an hour or two away at like VIR or Carolina Motorsports park?
Is anyone running a "lucky dog" style endurance series over there?
The 24 Hour of Lemons runs at CMP twice a year; the next one is next weekend and I'll be there. It's not a 24 hour race - more like two ~8 hour sessions.
I'm sure there's more!
CCR-SCCA and SCR-SCCA have pretty good autocross schedules, but just about everything is going to mean a couple of hour drive.
Check out THSCC, they run a bunch of local autocross and rallycross events and some track days at VIR.
Yep. Tarheel and ccr scca are both good groups.
I'm thinking we may need a nc/sc get together. Didn't realize there was more than just me in the area anymore.
NCCAR is a nice facility, random clubs run there and you better have some power and brakes if you are running the full course lol.
NCCAR is fun course with a loooooong straight. I managed to hit the electronic speed limiter in 530i. On stock pads, I didn't try that again

Whats NCCAR? At least one of the SCCA's ran all the way out at Cherry Point which was quite a bit farther than I'd like to go for autocross. VIR is more doable.
But track time might be a better alternative to make the drives more worthwhile.
If its this North Carolina Center for Automotive Research it looks doable as well.
THSCC looks like they run generally closer events. I sold my miata that was track prepped with roll bar, suspension, wheels tires, etc a while ago. I think I want something with a v8 or flat 6 sound track just to make great noises while doing it. Vettes are a lot cheaper however. Are there any car specific clubs of note that run really good events to be aware of out there?
For example in Socal at least the PCASDR is almost worth buying your way into because they run regular autox and track days (so does BMWCCA who I have run with alot)

It almost got boring in my RX8 going down that straight tbh lol.
Site link for the site too, definitely very well ran any event I've gone to.
Brett Murphy might be able to point you in the right way.
I'm prepping my piece of crap daily driver for an autocross fun.

Of all the places, we've been relocated to, there seems to be more car related activities here in the Triangle than any other. Our office parking lot here is like a car show sometimes on nice days, with anything from a new Hellcat, a viper, a cool rat rod, multiple Porsches of various vintages, BMWs, etc. Several current and ex-racers in the office. Regular Car & Coffee type events, an amazing Concours down at Pinehurst. Lots of local autocross events, and rally cross seems to be becoming popular. VIR is 60-90 minutes which side of the area you live in. The Tarheel club is obviously very active for autocross and track events. The local BMW CCA runs a great HPDE program up at VIR. Plenty of the typical cruising events with the PCA and BMW club if that is more your thing.
LOTS of money in the triangle, so you'll see lots of cool cars on the road (and at the RDU parking garage). I regularly see Teslas, i8s, R8s, Jag F Type R, more M3s than you count, etc. Of course, you'll see your fare share of Drs. in their new toy with some pompous vanity plate letting you know their a Dr as well :-)
VIR is just a tick over an hour from Cary.
Wilson fairgrounds has rallycrosses fairly regularly.
Plenty of automotive fun to be had in the area.

I've autocrossed pretty regularly with a non BMW (miata) for about 2yrs total with the san diego region of BMW CCA. Of course their autocross season is year round so probably have run 20-25 events. Sadly at least out here they have a no convertible policy for their HPDE stuff. But like I said I am starting to think c5 or c5 z06 running in CAM-S type trim would be more the ticket.
I really like my daily so think I want to keep the toy car separate but it is tempting sometimes to go for the do it all type
