i want to convert it to a 996 GT3 RSR!!!

Pat Williams Racing said: You've seen Ronnie Randall's green #8 GT4R car that was built entirely at PWR. It has not only dominated GT4R but has many overall PCA club racing wins including it's last time out at Mardi Gras where it qualified first, won overall, set fastest lap and garnered the corner worker's award. Now follow along on our latest large scale project as we build another racecar from the ground up for another one of our customers, Barry Bays, currently racing in PCA F Class - from the most unlikely candidate, a water logged 1976 911S Targa - for the GT3R class again utilizing a unique powerplant, a 3.2 based 2.61 twin turbo.

I totally agree about the coolness factor... not so sure about the "grassroots" bit tho... something tells me those body kits don't come cheap...

I dunno, I still prefer the old shape.

Which old shape?

IMHO, that is the perfect use for a 911 targa... was never a fan of that... no matter how cheap they get...

That'll be the same old shape that I've got parked in the garage .

Nice, but EXPENSIVE... Might be cheaper to buy a GT3 cup and convert it or just start with an RSR.

Um, sounds like you actually want a newer 911, but just want to get there with a bunch of work to save a few pennies.

the only targas I liked were the original ones with the zip out rear window.

And yes... old 911s.. true 911s are a neat beast that are hard to tame, but worth it when you do

That is one of the prettiest cars i have ever seen. Gorgeous. Love the transformation.

Surely the old shell wouldn't be as stiff/strong/light as an actual 996 item. Or would the roll cage make up for that?

Seems like a lot of effort to "rebody" an old car. Yeah if it's ratty, no so bad, you can get'm cheap as non-runners, but a ratty 996 would be less work, maybe cheaper in the long run. impressive work though. All that fiberglass looks expensive to repair.

Yeah, 30+ years of porsche engineering would probably help the cause. I dont like targas and it still seems odd to me.

There was an old 911 for sale locally a while back that was converted to look like a 996. It was gorgeous and the price was pretty reasonable IIRC, somewhere between 12-18K.
