I am puzzled by this car's very existence.

They have Elise cop cars right now...UK cops are serious about winning pursuits.

I doubt that they won many in the TR4.

Maybe if they were chasing MG T-series, and other oxcarts.

That smacks of a cop in charge of purchasing who really liked TR-4s but just couldn't swing it on his salary.

I remember as a kid that somewhere in the SC they had a 911s as a cop car ... this would have been sometime in the late '60's

I had one very similar to that in college. In it's day, it was not slow. To put this in perspective, mine had a few mods that were simple, cheap and effective. Afterwards, I could leave a 240Z up to about 70mph. While you wouldn't run down a Ferrari or Corvette, you could definitely outrun the Pops and Zephers roaming around England at the time.

Personally I think it's very cool.

Or a Transit or most cars that were common in England at that time.

In 1993 in Hall County Ga, we had a D.A.R.E. 300ZX Twin Turbo with a Jim Wolf ECU and HKS exhaust for the sherriffs dept. The sticker on the back said this car was seized from a drug dealer. It was the most amazing sounding cop car I have ever heard. Also we have "Beat the Heat" at Commerce, GA where you can drag race against various Police cars. Really strange but awesome.

Maybe the Triumph was for inner city patrol only where traffic sucked anyway.

Write up says it was for pursuit duty. There weren't may cars in England in 1964 that could top 100 mph. This was one of them. Look at US cop cars now: a p71, hemi charger, or tahoe aren't the fastest things on the road. motorola > hp.
