Had my brother (procker) over a week or two ago and we headed out to the garage to look over the Saturn wagon project i have on jackstands and to bs.

Weather he was just commenting or planting a sick idea in my mind i will never know, however, this is what came out of his mouth...

"You know kevin, the Saturn looks pretty good sitting all jacked up" (something like that)

Got me thinking....

What if instead of lowering the Saturn I lifted it.

Just do what all the truck/ subie guys do. A small spacer lift on top of the strut would do it. I figure and inch lift and an inch bigger tire is two inches and that is not too bad. Kinda go after the rallyish/ pseudo off road look.

I dunno. Thoughts on said idea? Should i never have my brother over again?

Talk me outta this. Lowered or stock height over lifted?

i'd lift it just to be different. then i'd take it off some sweet jumps.

Everyone lowers. I'll leave it at that.

recheck your math.. a tire would need to be 2 inches taller to gain an inch of height..

Truth. That slipped my mind. Ok, two inches bigger tires.

can't be any worse than a lifted Scion tC...

I've often thought of doing the same thing. But putting taller tires on a Saturd would make it, amazingly, even slower. And spacing out the tops of the struts would probably do something to suspension geometry that I'd need a degree to understand, so I haven't done it. But lifted, knobby tires, mudflaps, maybe a roof rack...could be cool, especially on a wagon.

I kinda like to do that on a volvo 245. Mudflaps, roofrack, lights, and a spare tire on the hood or roof...inspired by the top gear episode were James May drove a Citroen in a rally in Spain.

Maybe some spacers between the subframe and body would correct some of the geometry issues? Yes, bigger tires would make it slower, good excuse for some power ugrades. Really though, most rally cars don't sit up that high, just have longer suspension travel. Safari (Pari-Dakar) would sit higher. +1 for roof rack, lights, etc. Just add stock size or wider (not taller) knobbies and rally flaps.

I have a leveling kit on my '06 F150. All it is is a 2.5" rubber spacer that is between the coilover and the top mount. I haven't noticed any uneven tire wear or any wonky dynamics. Of course they came from a company (Daystar). But just like someone else stated, there could be some crazy suspension happenings, since my truck is probably designed for more suspension travel than a Saturn wagon. Of course, as long as you don't let an inept/unknowing driver behind the wheel....

This for about $100:

Really, don't do it.

I like this idea. But to look proper, you might need rally mud flaps, low-offset wheels and some fender flares. Also: snorkel.

I think it looks cool but I don't see any purpose in it. Are you planning on using it for anything where you need the extra height?

I've thought about doing it to my golf for caving, camping, and hiking.

So you should totally do it.

let me add my unrelated idea...

take all plastic body panels off, stitch weld what lies beneath, replace outer panels with sweet post-apocalyptic-ish aluminum sheet.
