In preperation for the PBX rally, I'm looking to get some extra lights for the Land Rover. I have 2 spots on the brush bar that can hold some big housings (like 9"+) and some room lower down in the brushguard to mount some smaller rectangular fogs.
What have people here used and did/do you like them? I think I want some Hella 550 fogs for the lower mounting position. These will be wired using the OEM foglamp wiring (which is actually pretty good, plenty for these 55w lights).
For the upper position, I want some big, round, driving lights. They will be wired on a dedicated line/relay setup. I'd love a set of Hella 4000s, but they are fairly expensive. I want something bigger than regular Hella 500s. I don't know much about the IPF or PIAA or KC lines. I was looking at Hella 700FFs as a less expensive alternative to the 4000s.
Ideas? Suggestions?

Look into the Hella 1000FF's. They are apparantly not much more than 500's or 700's but much better. Quite a bit less than 4000's.
I have the IPF 968 lights on the front of my truck and I like em fine. They have a combination fog and driving light pattern. Some kind of Aussie magic. My buddy has HID converted Hellas that are absolutely incredible. Check out Lightforce if you want some really nice lights. Pricey, but nice.
EDIT: Linky to a .pdf about the IPF lights
The Lightforce are the ones that focus like a big Maglite, right? They have the same problem, a dead spot in the middle unless you have them cranked down.
I'd recommend concentrating on the lights up top. Lights down low, offroad at night make even a big tree root look like a 10' drop. Don't get any reflection off the hood though. Heck, if it's a Land Rover it should either have a tire on the hood or a matte black paint job there.
I don't think those are the same ones. These are the lights I was referring to. Apparently Lightforce also makes handheld lights so those could be the big Maglight type ones.
They were definitely driving lights, I first came across them at SEMA a few years ago. It's possible they don't make them anymore - looks like they're using snap-on covers to alter the beam pattern now.
The 4000's are worth it. I had them on my rover.
Loved them(sold the rover). They adjust very easily. The have plugs that allow the lights to be removed easily.
They turn night time into daytime. Nothing short of amazing.

ah, gotcha. i couldn't find anything like that on lightforce's website (just the covers you mentioned) so you're probably right
I've got 7" Hellas mounted at the base of the windshield of the Samurai. In other countries there is a hinge there, in the U.S. only a plate.
Members of the Jeep club I belong to use small 2 X 3" hologens screwed to the top of the windshield, lined up along the width of the windshield frame. They suggest getting the lights as high as possible.
