I'm just gonna leave this here:

https://www.glamisdunes.com

https://www.race-dezert.com/forum/

Other than pirate4x4, those are my favorite off-road related sites.

Pirate 4x4 has our level of frankenstein fabrication and ill-advised swaps as well.  I just hate reading bright text with a black background.

that gives me a headache and letters seared into my brain that won't go away. If I see a website like that, I immediately click out of it

I actually prefer bright text on a dark background, although some color combinations are kinder on the eyes than others.

I'll echo everybody mentioning the fabrication over at pirate4x4.  Lots of dudes over there just have no fear of cutting things up and completely changing the entire structure of the vehicle.  It makes custom fabrication seem much more approachable because most of the individual steps in a project aren't super technically challenging.  It just requires some thought upfront.  I cruise through that site a couple times a year to get ideas.

I think Expedition Portal is about the opposite of GRM.  So many projects on that site have just had the money cannon shot at them.  There are a couple sweet OBS F350's (and certainly others) that don't fit that description, but the amount of money that gets spent for the occasional dirt road drive rubs me the wrong way.

Good to know the community here is cool with the 4x4 builds too. I'll have to create a build thread for my Toyota even though it is still in half baked mess sitting in the corner of my shop phase.

Part of the problem with a Toyota build is that the stock stuff can be good enough that a build is really just hanging accessories on it once in a while.

I agree, but I like Expedition Portal just for the adventure threads.

I think you’ll find a good knowledge base in the sub forums on Advrider too.  Motorcycle site but it’s huge and there are many subcategories.  One guy did a whole build thread a few years ago on swapping a 6BT into a Winnebago.  Very informative.

I mean there is Pirate4x4. Though they have everything from million dollar trophy truck builds to $1500 bro-lite builds.

And in terms of community niceness, they're on the other end of the spectrum...

Preach.  Grow a thick skin and be prepared for your thread to become a flounder, but there are a ton of really knowledgeable folks there.

Why not ask questions and post 4x4 stuff here? I’ve never had or seen and discouragement of that here. There’s many 4x4 enthusiasts here, myself included.

I'll second this.  I'm an offroad enthusiast.  Certainly not the most knowledgeable, but I know enough to point you in the wrong direction cheeky

If you want a capable off-road vehicle I can help.  If you want a Moab rock crawler, my advice will likely get you killed.

Check out my hardcore (not hardcore) Mazda B4000 that is super modded (bigger wheels and tires that are very mild A/Ts... it's ok to laugh)

My Samurai(s) could crawl over stuff that goats struggle with.  Those boulder-barriers arraigned by bulldozers we’re nothing for me.

But... when I took my 100% stock K5 Blazer (with 31” Super Swampers) our in the woods, it might’ve been MORE fun than the Samurai because of the challenge. The Blazer was huge in comparison, the Sami had double-low transfer case gears, an SPOA and was almost boring due to its ability.

I know your post was tongue in cheek but I learned it’s not the hardcoreness of the vehicle but the drivers abilities that make off roading fun.

Its the 4x4 version of the slow-car-fast theory.
