Yeah, sorry. The Maxima we got has some issues that I don't want to deal with, needs an exhaust and it's crunchy underneath. It's got all the bells & whistles I could ever want and with 62,000 miles we should just run the wheels off it and shut up. But you know me .....
Driving back and forth to Connecticut, we find ourselves in a canyon of SUV sheet metal at 75 mph and you can't see around them; so join them, right?
I looked through the GRM Reviews, googled a bunch of models but my short list in descending order is a Lincoln MKC, Nissan Roque Sport (smaller than a Rogue), and a Cadillac XT5. Like to stay @ $20-$25K. I believe the Maxima is worth ~$3500.

A lift and mudders on the Caddy?
That Rouge Sport has like 145 HP. Having done the NY to Boston every weekend on that highway for 3 years, I would like a bit more power.
THe MKC is my pick with the 240-285HP
I have one, need a 4 seater.

Avoid the Nissan, all modern nissans are such junk. I still can't get over how awful the rental 2020 Altima with 1k miles I just had was, unforgivably bad in several ways.
Mazda CX5s are wonderful though, fun to drive, great interior, reliable.
CX-5 gets my vote. How about an Outback or Crosstrek?
My parents just got a $25k crv. Brand new. They are 75. It will outlast them.
Put a periscope on the Maxima?
For the SUV options, what are your priorities? These seem to be towards the compact luxury end other than the Nissan.
No priorities, will consider anything under $25k except Subies. Sorry, I've seen three spend more time at the Stealership with electrical issues, one actually burned up.
Quickie Update:
I still like the Lincoln MKC, but SWMBO and I are going to buy a Honda CR-V today. They have a 2017 with 20,000 miles for ~$22k.
I stopped at the Stealership yesterday when Trish was working and looked around. I really liked the CR-V ESL, but lots of chatchkas that I'll never use. We settled on an ES for $3k less. The high note of the day came when they asked about the Maxima. Guy drove it around the lot and offered $500 off the Honda. WHAT?
2008 Maxima with 65,ooo miles, literally a little old lady owned car; at 91 they told her she can't drive. (hell, she couldn't drive when she was 40). Probably worth $2500. with the summer sneakers on.

If it's too old for retail on the new-car lot they send it to auction and they'll only get what someone who doesn't know the car will pay at auction for a 12 year old low demand model. So they probably figure if they buy it for $500 and spend money moving the car and some paperwork to the auction house they'll be lucky if they get back $500-700 on top. If it was new enough they could sell it on their own used car lot they'd offer you a lot more, but it is what it is. Sell it private party.
Woman Trish knows wants it for her kid's first car.
Thanks guys!
