Anyone else running the Ohio Mile this year?
My son and I are signing up. First time mile running.
I have over 500 dragstrip passes (1/4 and 1/8) but no "long distance dashes"

My car won't set any records, but it would be fun to do this anyhow.
Looks like you don't need a cage under 135mph (provided you have a roof)
Seriously interested.

I want to attend one, but its unlikely I will have the time.

this used to be the Maxton Mile in NC, then had to move to OH (due to the airstrip being taken back over by the military
We are ready for 135mph

x2. my buddy and i do plan to make september in our big cars. 1995 impala SS and 1995 caprice 9c1. we just mounted and balanced a set of 911 gt3 pilot sport cup takeoffs on his 20's for the caprice. already have Z rated rubber on the impala, just need to pull out my run of the mill 5.3 and turn it into a small cube LS6. wife is not on board with bringing the 9-7x. i figure 300hp AWD suv on 18" low profile z rated tires would do OK. plus saab, so aerospace engineers and whatnot.

History, it seems, is not without a sense of irony.
I've been to this back when it was in NC. Very cool event, even as a spectator. Lots of different classes. The turbo Busa's are nuts.
Also got to see the Centimark Mustang. http://www.landspeedmustang.com/ 230mph Mustang is legit.
Be sure to watch from both ends of the track (beginning and finish line). Very different prospectives.
We ran 6 passes ranging from 124-128mph. Our 151,000 mile 3800 V6 pulled 30 mpg on the way there.
Great time, lots of different vehicles. New 2015 Z28, Corvettes, Mustangs, Torino, ElCamino, Rat Rods, Studabaker with a 500 Caddy Engine, S10 with a Diesel, former circle track cars and trucks, old pickups, Neons, Miata's, Saabs of various generations, "million dollar" gullwing Mercedes, Beaumont 4 speed station wagon, Smart Car, motorcycles, more that I do not recall.
Will load up a few photos later.
We talked about this over on SaabRaaly, here's the basics of the slower classes:
Well if you do go I’m sure you can meet the safety regs:
To go to 135 MPH:
Speed rated tires
Three point seat belts
Long Sleeve shirt/jacket
Long Pants
Snell SA2005 or SA2010 full-face helmet with face shield ( Car Helmet )
135 to 150MPH:
Five point safety harness SFI 16.1 or 16.5 (no more than 5 years old) Belts must be installed per manufactures instructions. If vehicle has a high back factory style seat, the belts MUST go thru the back.
Four Point Roll Bar (Open cockpit cars must have a six point roll bar) with SFI 45.1 Padding ( Soft padding is NOT SFI rated )
Speed rated tires
Hood Hold Downs
Kill Switch
Electric fuel pumps require an inertial kill switch to disable pump
Arm restraints OR door net
Unblown car:
Suit – SFI 3.2A-1
Boots SFI – 3.3/5
Gloves SFI 3.3/5
Head Sock SFI 3.3 (Required for open cars with no hood or side opening only)
Blown car:
Suit – SFI 3.2A-1
Boots SFI – 3.3/5
Gloves SFI 3.3/5
Head Sock SFI 3.3
Neither of those seem too extrem. Even the up to 150mph is basic track day stuff except for the net and the suit. Since I've crossed an international border doing 130mph 4 up with luggage, I'd definitely shoot for the the 150mph class or more. To go over 150 you need:.
150 to 175MPH:
Five point safety harness SFI 16.1 or 16.5 (no more than 5 years old)
Six Point Roll Bar (Open cockpit cars must have a full cage) with SFI 45.1 Padding ( Soft padding is NOT SFI rated )
Speed rated tires
5 Lb fire suppression system- driver compartment (not a fire extinguisher)
Arm restraints OR door net
Electric fuel pumps require an inertial kill switch to disable pump
A metal seat designed for racing. A maximum of 1.0" of padding. Plastic seats are NOT allowed! Recaro Seats are plastic.
Same clothing specs as the 135 - 150 class
Again, not too bad, but fire systems are not cheap on a budget.
This is something that's on my realistic bucket list as it's relatively close and affordable. Member ship is about $50 and entry fees around $225.
Spent nearly $2K at Home depot on materials for summer projects, so it looks like the Saab is going to the bottom of the priority list again. Maybe 2017
Oof. 175mph requirements are costly. For good reason, i'm sure, but blah. Maybe i won't be taking the MX6.

Don't you have a cage? I thought you did.
Looks like you can get a cheap Halon Fire system from Jegs for as low as $360. do it do it.

We'll see. It's mostly the full suit, seat, kill switches, and fire suppression stuff. Car has a somewhat minimal cage in it from when cages were free and open for GRM Challenge 2013.

Is the statute of limitations up on that one Adrian, because that sounds like a story that needs to be shared.

Get a bike then.....the requirements there are pretty lax as far as safety goes...well, except the purpose made tires for ludicrous speed.

Nooooooo thank you.

True. I still plan to take my k1300s when work schedule allows. I already have the helmet and leather suit....just need some safety wiring and an additional kill switch.

All from Speedway Products
Suit – SFI 3.2A-1 – Speedway Racing Suit-One piece-Single Layer - $99.99
Boots SFI – 3.3/5 – Impact Racing H/T Bolt Driver shoes - $59.99
Gloves SFI 3.3/5 – Simpson Undercover Drivers Gloves - $49.99
Head Sock SFI 3.3 – Bell Inner X head sock - $29.99
Grand total $240. I assume you have a legal Helmet from other endeavors? I love spending other people’s money I have the full gear, but it’s all 25 years old and FIA rated as I got it for Hillclimbing in the UK before I moved here. It was all good for Road racing in the late 90’s, but I bet it’s too old these days. Not to mention it appears to have shrunk around the waste area
