Go a year ahead of schedule and hold it on with zip ties.

After a year or so, those 6mm bolts all rust and snap off when you try to remove them.

Install a drain valve of some sort with a hose.

The wife's 08 Highlander requires removing an undertray for the filter. Then you gotta have some special wrench to open the cartridge. Then you have to use some plastic connector with a piece of hose to pierce something to drain the oil out of the cartridge so you don't dump oil everywhere.

I'm really missing good ol' spin-ons at this point.

I have the same problem with my 'rolla. Just deal with it. The undertrays not only shield the mechanical bits from dirt and gravel but also serve an aerodynamic function. If you take them off it will kill the low pressure area behind the radiator and you'll get less airflow through it.

Yeah the Mazda5 was the same deal. Had to remove the undertray, then made 3 trips to get a tool that would remove the filter cover, which none would. FInally had to buy the right size filter wrench on Amazon because nobody locally stocks a 25.6mm filter wrench. Ugh.

I'm dreading the day those bolts just rip through the plastic shielding, like they always do in Michigan.

The zip ties are a good option. The thing gets bad enough mileage so I was not even considering leaving the tray off.

Way ahead of you, for a solution I have 3 words:

  • Big
  • Ass
  • Washers

I still have scars on my forearm from IS300 ownership. You had to unbolt the stay on the transmission filler and move it out of the way. Then you had to thread the oilfilter through a 3-part move to get it up and out, between the brake master cyl and intake. Oh, and try to catch as much oil as possible in a ziploc bag in the process. /rant

I've used them on a boat, where there is no access to the oilpan in the bilge. They work fine on cars, as long as you have a dipstick tube.

Used it on my old Nissan 4x4 so I didn't have to pull the skidplate.

I don't know about the "5qts in 3 minutes" part, but they work great.

Having owned both an IS300 and the Peugeot... let me tell you, the IS300 is frustrating... I'll admit, but be thankful... the IS300 is not the PITA the Peugeot was.

offhanded story of sorts... my dad is 87 now, and when he went to college in the 1940s(before interstates!) he drove from NJ to Washington state to go to college... Of the number of trips he took... the shortest was 3 days... 6 guys driving was constant...

anyway, they stopped halfway to change the oil... in those days there was no filter!!!!
