My 2004 Civic (1.7L) is leaking oil from the bottom and from the top. I'm sure to check the drain bolt and filter when I get home (duh). There is oil on the oil filler cap and some on the valve cover. I checked it and the level was right at the top line. I accidentally got 5w30 instead of 5w20 this time. I haven't looked at it yet, but I don't know why there is oil on the cap and valve cover. I've owned it since new(89k now) and done most of the oil changes with 5w20 myself and no problems. I didn't know if the change in oil would cause this or not.

I would check the PCV valve if so equip. Probably stopped up and not creating a vacuum on the crankcase. It will make them leak like a sieve if they are bad.

As toyman said. Difference in the oil is not causing your problem. It won't hurt to run it.
