To paraphrase Adam Carolla, how mad is your wife going to be if you drag home a Viper?

If I had the money, driving skill and garage space, I'd get one.

I don't care for vipers at all. Of the choices listed I think I'd pick the Aston Martin, or maybe a maserati GT or some Amg Mercedes if there are any fun ones in that price range. It seems like a pretty high percentage of ferarris and Lamborghinis (compared to any normal cars) end up getting swept up off the side of the road with a broom after they spontaneously combust, so that kinda removes a lot of their appeal for me.

You have the option to buy a Viper therefore you should have a Viper. As a point the letters "acr" improve the awesome of any Chrysler product by about 1000% so maybe buy an actual acr. Maybe find one of the Woodhouse Dodge acr roadsters I really could not think of a more perfect vehicle.

Having worked on Vipers fairly extensively back in '03 (I debodied one of the first PVO Vipers for paint when it showed up with zero miles), I am still a firm believer that they are as close to a factory-built racecar as I've seen before (well...the PVO one WAS a factory-build racecar...but even the regular ones are pretty racy. Square tubing, flat metal panels, etc). VERY neat cars that I'd love to own one day...but I don't see it happening. At least not soon.

Well when I sold the last one it was, "sell the car or I am cutting off something you will regret."

Now its "get a good deal and color so you don't lose your shirt when it tries to kill you and I force you sell it."

She is rooting for the Aston as she has test driven on and actually could use the clutch without problems. She shattered her left foot a while back and can no longer push the clutch in on a viper. I actually think that is why she is a little pissed about them.

As for work, its been a good two weeks. I think I saved/made a little more then 3.3 million net for the few companies I work for so should be safe to say I have a job for a little while longer.

Got the repair bills over the replaced motor sent to me by the shop.

The did a 10K motor, new clutch, new brakes all around, new tires, new steering pump, new rake booster, and full replaced the AC system. Car shows no crash damage and the owner swears he never tracked it but the car had an aftermarket baffled slump and mounts removed for a acuslump. Not exatcly sure what to take from that.

Get a car your wife likes or you'll regret it (again). If you can afford a Ferrari, both in purchase and upkeep, get a 360. I don't know how heavy the MT clutch is, but if you get the F1 gearbox then your wife will have no issues.

I married well, my wife refuses to drive a F1 style car. I have had to do crazy things to get manual cars for her in the past. Try finding a orange manual element, in a few day, for a wife who's civic SI was stolen.

Good for you! Check out the 6MT, then. The 360 is supposed to be a great car. IMO the decision should be between a Ferrari and a Ford GT if they are both realistic buys. The GT is likely to cost you less in the long run, be more exclusive, and is just as much of a car as the 360 -- so there's a great argument for it over the Ferrari.

The Aston, while a great car, is a little too plush compared to the other two. My opinion, of course.

My one complaint with the GT is that two of the guys I work with daily already have them. I have driven one of them and its interesting. Lower then you would expect, people go bat E36 M3 crazy when they see them due to the rarity. Plus finding a good clean one for under 150K is going to be a little tough for me to do.

Metric tons of fun to drive though.

Well, never mind the exclusivity then :)

How do you plan on driving whatever car you get? Mostly pleasure driving or mostly motorsport?

Ever since I did a Skip Barber class and drove one a few years back, I've always loved the Viper! I say option one, because you have car ADD and that gives you a good variety to play around with...

I have a friend locally with a NSX, a 360 challenge stradele and a 997 turbo. But honestly he pretty much only drives the porsche (here up in Vista, I think you were in SD right?)

The same thing that makes the porsche great (daily livability) also makes it the option I would not choose because they are just too common around these parts

I would go back to a GT3 expect for the same reason. There are I think 11 911 in the company parking lot.

I have other cars this will be for spirited driving, taking the wife to dinner, doing charity car drive that sort of thing.

There is a 06 convertible viper in the same blue for ~38K with the same mileage and no modifications. Might be cheaper to go after that and get a hard top.

Ford GTs are currently appreciating while everything else on your list is headed the opposite direction. The Viper may bounce back up at some point, but if it was me, I'd go for the car on the rise (since they're all somewhat awesome).

So got the email of the mechanic who put the motor in, he is going to get back to me with some info on it and his opinion if he can.

The shop that did the bodywork got a hold of me and told me the car is clean. Of course its wearing 10K worth of there wings and canards and other sundries.

Talking it over with my wife and father tonight. My wife so she is cool with the car and more importantly the color/wing. My father as the car is going to have to live with him until I get my lift installed in a month or so.

On the ACR I have driven a few, in hardcore form, and even I think that is over kill. I think the ACR's will actually keep their value better then the SRT-10 versions. But there is more then enough grip in a standard car for me to have fun and cheaper to boot.

I do know my father is going to say find a Gen IV instead of a Gen III car for the extra power and the better gearing.
