I am thinking of picking up a supercharger system from a ford super coupe. Looks like an M-90, piping, and intercooler, throttle body and injectors. Not sure what to use it for but by the looks of it since the piping goes through an intercooler I was thinking adapting this to other engines should be easier because you don't need a dedicated supercharger intake manifold.

My thinking it would operate more like a belt-driven turbocharger, throttle body to supercharger to intercooler to existing intake manifold. Am i wrong? Kit is only $100 so thinking take a chance.

I had an M45 in my Miata for about a year.  Made 6-7 psi and a ton of heat, I was shocked at the intake air temps.  Intercooling helps, but then you run into challenges with idle and stalling due to throttled air volume.

I believe most centrifugal setups run literally the same as the cold side of a turbo setup.

Here's somebody running an M122 remote mounted on an LS1 with an intercooler and the throttle body in the normal location.

In reply to Daylan C :

The M90 he's talking about is not a centrifugal blower, it's a roots blower set up for remote mount.

EDIT: I feel dumb now, the second picture didn't show up when I first looked at this...

Interesting they have the tb on the pressure side, I guess as long as the tb is sealed that is just like a blow through carb set up. So far have not heard a reason not to try.

TB after the blower cuts down on noise.

OK so different question does this look like its worth $100 or is it not that good of a deal.

I'll give you $110 for that at the 2019 challenge if you don't use it by then.

The m90 off the super coupe is one of the more desirable junk yard blowers. Unlike all the gm ones it uses a regular rectangular flange on the base. This makes it very easy to adapt for different applications..

That looks like a great deal at 100$ As others have stated.

Ok so just got stuff home and here is what I got, m90 blower, needs a coupler but bearings sound and feel ok, someone spent some time cleaning and painting. All of the charge pipes and intercooler, not sure what of that I would use but never hurts to have parts to work from. The connectors for the intercooler are matched to charge pipes so even if they get cut off for the fittings they have some value. 8 supposed to be 30 lb hr ford injectors, looks like a mass air meter, and tps sensor, not sure what the others are.

So the real question does this find its way on a 1mz going in an MR2? I think we might have a budget issue to qualify for Gastropods if we do, so that might be a 2020 challenge return. If we boost it I don't see any way to use the stock ecu, so standalone adds some $$ unless someone as a megasquirt they want to get rid of?

Couple of pics with the add, nobody saw the add because it said assorted parts, not a supercharger.

There was a TRD supercharger for the 1MZ that did about 4psi on the stock ECU- I would imagine you can get a bit more if you bump the fuel pressure a bit, especially if you can find a way to retard the timing.

Nice score!  If you don't use the piping you need to make something out of the "supercharged" section, I thought that was super cool as a kid.

I do not have a great record with supercharged MR2's, maybe we can go for beating last years lap time.

Just a WAG, but I think the MAF and the IAC are Ford too.

SC owner here. The MAF definitely doesn't look like a Ford part. Ford MAFs of that era don't have a flange on either end--they attach with silicone couplers on both sides. By the time Ford did start building MAFs with that style flange for bolting directly to the air box, they were made of black plastic.

The supercharger top hat (the part with 3.8 cast into it) is a restriction. Look up the "raised top" for these engines to reduce some of that restriction (assuming you're going to use that part at all).

Also, be aware the giant nut on the SC top is a reverse thread and takes a special tool to tighten it to the intercooler tube. And the tubes are designed to use special teflon gaskets to seal to the intercooler.

Thanks for the insight, this is the first one I have even been around. Not sure if it will make it on our MR2 project this year or not, but looked like too good of a deal to not put on the shelf. I will see if I can get some numbers off the maf and see what it is.

I do have a challenge budget friendly standalone for sale I just listed in the classifieds. Could always look into something like an old standalone for $250 bucks or something as an option?
