Oh my. Umm I may have to contact that guy. How hard is it to work on an MR2? And I am assuming a 6'2" guy can fit in one.

You should be able to fit into one. As for working on them, engine work isn't quite as easy as say... a Civic, but it's not horrible.

I know. I have been checking with progressive's online quotes which are usual within a dollar or two of the Statefarm. And I will call statefarm before I buy anything.

If I don't have a car by Christmas break I may well consider it.

I may have bought it by then. It's been REALLY hard for me to resist that one and the silver one that keep popping up.

At 6' 1", a 32" inseam and 220lbs I fit well into my MR2. It did require that I removed the t-tops for autox so my helmet could stick out. With no helmet there was no problem.

I did replace the factory steering wheel with a 13.5" cheap Grant wheel. I did this becasue I needed the extra room between wheel and center console. I tried a 13" but found it to be too small. This change does require that you use an adapter and an extra extender. Without the extender the wheel is too close to the turn signal stalk and with the extender the wheel is a bit closer to driver than stock but very acceptable.

These cars are suprisingly roomy and functional when you add up all the little spaces. Much more room that my Miata

Ok so I talked to the MR2 owner. He said the gears crunch when shifting aggressively but not when shifting normally. I have no idea what he means by aggressively.

Sounds like an invite to go shift them aggressively for youself!
My guess is syncros that are going bad. I did not have that issue but mine left with only 88k miles on it.

If you want to research the issue, the epicenter of all things MR2 is www.mr2oc.com
The site will require that you register but it is safe and easy.

I think you're on the right track when you're talking reliability, at least from the DD needs you talk about. Especially if you're borrowing some of the money.

To answer your original question, you could try things like Autotrader.com or Cars.com or Vehix.com, but many of those cars are newer and/or more expensive. I usually look at CL or Ebay.

MR2s are awesome, I've had 4 of them. Just be sure that it hasn't been beaten/neglected/hacked to death. Other thoughts may be 1st gen G20 or Protege. My wife had a '93 G20 many years ago. It was a blast and dead reliable.

Sounds too good to be true, but this looks like a nice GSR for $2400:

Mitsubishi Migae with 8 speed manual transmission. A high and low lever in each gear. It was fun to drive, especially the 2low to 2 high, was like having a close-ratio gear box. Two door hatch back, too.

That's either too good to be true or has half a million miles or more.

Looks clean. I'd say get it without the stereo, get rid of those rims in favor of some 2000-2005 GTS rims and you're set to go.

With 80k miles, i'd offer him $4k for it, but if it's REALLY clean and drives well, i would pay $4500 for it. Better make sure you like it when you drive it though. Some people will gnash their teeth at paying $4500 for a 15 year old Celica, but that car easily has another 150k miles in it.

Oh, and the exhaust is too big for that motor. But that just means that it's ready for when you want to boost it.
