So, kinda like in the last post, the Miata has a diy COP conversion. The plugs required are from a cbr1000rr. Imr9c-9hes. These are real expensive iridiums.

I just tried regular Miata NGK's and they don't work. Miata plugs don't have a removable terminal.

I need a removable terminal so they fit on the CBR COP sticks

how do I find the plug I need with a  Removable terminal, that's not stupid expensive and special order? The FLAPS were useless.

these are the E3 plugs that were in there when I got the car. These E3 plugs suck by the way. The problem is when I cross reference the E3 plug to an NGK plug, the NGK plug that comes up does not have a removable tip

Ok, after some searching, I found that the FAP9 Miata kit (which is identical to this diy I did) uses denso ik16 plugs. Looks like I could try to find those.

Edit: FLAPS ain't got it. Can't cross reference. Everything comes up as the ngk equivalents, but those don't have a thread on/off terminal tip. Wtf. I'm throwing my hands in the air. This is stupid. Spark plug manufacturers need to provide more details.

Every spark plug I've seen has that thread on the end.  You screw the push on thing onto the thread.  Used to be that the push on thingies came loose in the box and you screwed them on yourself.

I think the home brewed cop system is likely a serious waste of effort...  Do you have stock bits to put back on it?

I know you said you checked the flaps, was napa one of them?

Back in the day when a expensive plug was 2 bucks, and champions were 59 cents full price, I need plugs for my fzr400. 8.99 at the big 4 dealer near by. Same ngks at the local napa, 1.99, and in stock.

In reply to Dr. Hess :

NGK really is building some plugs now with non-removeable topsangry certainly cheaper to manufacture.

No. And from what I hear the stock Miata system eats itself. I would have to reverse all this wiring too. I'd rather keep this setup until I megasquirt

If you want cheap with removable tops, then take the heat range of what you have, cross it to Champion, match the plug thread and buy the resistor version of them for a buck at the auto parts store.

The E3 plug crosses to a NGK 7734 BPR5ES if you want copper core with the same heat range and a removable terminal.  In my experience that heat range is too hot for even a stock Miata and if you're running high compression or any kind of boost it's way to hot.  The NGK 3923 BPR8ES is probably a better choice.

Nope. Just tried them. They are too long, they also are 13/16" which don't fit inside the valve cover holes.

For now, it's back to these trash e3 plugs.

Rats.  I'm sorry, I didn't think about the hex size.  What part is too long?

The ceramic end, by about 1/4". Makes the COP stand out that much, which means it won't grip the tube and stay in. Thanks for the help guys. I agree, it's time for a change.
