Old toyota engine ID

Can anyone ID this engine?

Supposedly is a 2.0L.

The owner of the vehicle says: "This is one of the older Toyota engines (carburetor). The car was a 1978 Corolla, however, the engine had been replaced with a newer larger engine. It might be the 22R out of a pick up. I'll have to look. "

Certainly it is no 22R.

The 1978 Corolla came with the 1.6 liter 2TC motor. If that is the picture of the newer larger engine, it is the 1.8 liter 3TC from the early 80's RWD Corollas. The 3TC is basically the same as the 2TC, but with a bigger stroke to bump up the displacement.

I don't know what it takes to kill one of those, but it's a lot. More than I knew how to do as a teenager years ago.

'78 Corolla could come with a 3T-C as well, if you got the wagon. They're great motors, and can be built to put out a decent amount of power. Performance Options in Oakland had one that wasn't too extreme, and was putting out something like 170+ hp.

Maybe somebody on this forum can help me but can I put a 2tc head on a 3tc block? What will this accomplish?

I'm 99% sure yes, and absolutely nothing.

The trick you're most likely thinking of is to put a 20R head on an early 22R block.

You have to tell everyone what car this is in....my wife said I could not have it.

It is a 1959 Fiat 1100.

The Fiat portion of the body is structurally rust free. The Corolla floor pans had a bit of rust, but would be easy to fix when finishing tieing the two unibodys together.

My friend and I decided to pass on it, I still have my eye on the BiTurbo. The glass and body are great on the 1100.

The standard model did, but there was also a special edition model economy coupe, advertised as "The Answer".. as in, if everybody drove one of these, there would be no fuel crisis. It came with the 3KC 1200 cc engine, which was originally designed to be used in tractors. 1.2 litres! Heck, they make motorcycles with engines bigger than that!

But I bought one anyway, fresh off the dealership's truck in '77, for $2851 (only new car I ever owned). It wasn't quick, but it did have decent torque for what it was, and got close to 30mpg in an era when that mileage was nearly unheard of. I drove the crap out of that car for over 15 years, with few problems (well, except for that time the left rear wheel/axle came loose and passed me going down the highway, but that's another story). Ended up selling it to a neighbor;s kid for a dollar. He drove it until about a year ago, when it finally gave up the ghost.

I just read most of that thread, He was trying pretty hard, and had a very fast car/engine considering it wasn't properly built for that power level.

I went and looked at the Fia/ota Thursday. The car needs a lot of work still, but the Fiat portions of the car (shell and floor pan from rear seats rear) are in amazing condition. All of the glass is there and the trim is all in the trunk.

The suspension looks good and the cuts are straight. There are a couple of holes in the drivers side floor pan (from the Corolla) and sheet metal needs to be added between the outside frame rails and the toyota floor pans.
