Nice! Loving the wheels (chrome) in the previous pic. What are those again? My Miata is sleeping in the garage until probably April, like to get her a new set of shoes in the spring.
Kogeki by Flyin Miata. I have three sets.
Yes, Thanks. Knew I had seen them before.
Success! Car rolled onto the trailer under its own power.
Incredible day at a deservedly storied old race track. Bucket list box checked, but it will not be the last time.

Pouring one out for a GT2. Those are exceedingly rare cars, sad to see one gone
I've been to Willow Springs a few times, but always in a support role. I've only ever driven Horsethief Bench briefly. Someday I'll get out there with my own car.
Whenever I'm in SoCal for a press tour, I prefer to stay in Lancaster instead of LA because at just as easy to meet at the Angeles Crest Hwy from that end, and it gives us easy access to Willow Springs. Plus no LA bullE36 M3, I like the desert California vibe better than coastal :)

Ann's a beach girl, so that's where we are headed tomorrow. Santa Barbara<-> Lompoc area. Good home base for some PCH drive time, though.
We'll be back here for next weekend to run Streets.

Maybe sneak in a trip to Buttonwillow on the way? :)

As mentioned earlier, not my favorite track. But I hear from the locals that there is another completely new config, so may need to check that out.
For the data junkies, here's the speed trace. Crazy to run a track this large in only two gears, with only two shifts per lap. It's 4th gear every where except for the uphill at T3, which then carries through to just after cresting at T6 for the upshift back to 4th. T8 is right on the rev limiter for about ten seconds. Glad I put fresh oil in the crankcase.
These are the best/last four laps of the day. Blue is the quickest, shown in the video. Green is within a tenth and was just after blue. Note how I try to go deeper in T9 entry, scare myself, and overbrake before entering T9. Came right up to the edge of the track on that one. Visuals are terrible there as the white line at track's edge has weathered away and it's quite difficult to see where the pavement ends and the rubble begins. Next two laps I get more timid there as a result.
The other big differentiator is the entrance to T2. Nailed it on the blue lap, but never again. The track goes uphill there, so carrying entry speed pays a big dividend as gravity works against you.
Combining the best parts of the blue and green laps shows an optimal demonstrated performance of about 1:36.5. Something to shoot for when I get that cajones transplant.

It's not just a new config, they now have a second track on the property. It isn't open yet though -- it's done, but the first event on the new surface will be the CalClub SCCA majors at the end of January. I expect the dust issue will be the same though, since that's a factor of the ground it's built on.
Taking a pause from the driving while I do some real work. Proofing a tire test story and writing up the next bit of ND development.
This place is kinda inspiring...
what are the specs on the R/V and trailer? Is there any struggle to tow the car/trailer? Have you ever towed anything heavier?

RV is a 2019 Winnebago Navion built on a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter chassis. Great rig. Rated to tow 5000 lbs, but combined load limits you to 4500 when the box is fully loaded. Gets 14mpg towing (flat terrain, no headwind, 60 mph) and 17-18 unladen.
Trailer is a Trailex 8045 20-ft bolted (not welded) aluminum...weighs 900# empty.
Turbo diesel so it doesn't lose power much at altitude like a gasser. Pulls up mountains well, but does slow down some.
Will pull heavier cars. This combo below with tires on the rack is right at 4300#.
Waterfront inspiration was a success...next installment in the Triple Threat ND series written and submitted.
Here's a hint...and no, I won't discuss it just yet.
From last weekend at Willow Springs.
"Beep, beep...Miata comin' through!"

Are you finally swapping that manual trans for a CVT like you've been hinting?
