So I am ALSO looking at a Heckflosse (1966 230). It is rust free and runs, but has the autotragic trans. Has anyone done an auto to manual swap (floor shift) on one of these? Either it is not something that is done or my Google-Fu has failed me because there was surprisingly little I could find on the interwebs.
Please, understand that I am a poor, confused soul and have discovered that I am WAY too particular about the cars I drive.
A rust free heckflosse that runs...and you want to mess with it? Sell it to me! I want another one, auto or not!
The Mercedes manual transmissions from that era are as tragic as the auto. Anyway, I'm sure it'll be a pretty straight forward swap, you'll just have to cut a hole between the seats on the floor, swap steering columns, find the manual pedals, transmission mount, find the transmission and shift linkages to run from the middle of the trans to under your shifter, and possibly get a new driveshaft made or find one from a manual w110. Now finding parts for heckflosse cars...an adventure of its own! GOOD LUCK!

Edit: I forgot, master cylinder, slave cylinder, lines, etc.
And the crankshaft. Mercedes of that era had the crankshaft and flywheel balanced as a unit. Although I haven't heard of any ill effects of swapping the flywheel without rebalancing the crankshaft.

People do the swap on om617's and didnt have the fw and crankshaft balanced together. No issues that I know of; I have an om617.95x with a 4speed manually swapped behind it.
