Not to sound like a totally ignorant American E36 M3head, but... it snows there?

He is obviously a rookie in the ways of wives. That ad will not only not be considered a "good faith" effort, it will also get his testicles smacked (metaphorically speaking, or maybe not, depending on the wife in question).

I look forward to the soon to be posted ad that reads, "I got this car in the divorce and I just want it gone by the end of the week. Open to offers or trade for SUV.".

I will then offer her a Saturn Vue valued at $3k.

Ooh...good tip. I'm revising all of my Craigsnotifica search terms to include "divorce" and "cheating SOB."

The right way to deal with that ad is to show up with cash in hand and then haggle with him in front of his wife.

Make sure you have your story straight. I'd go with: I had one of these new back in '04. I bought it before we knew my wife was pregnant with my daughter. We knew that we couldn't fit two rear facing car seats in it and still both be able to drive it, the insurance was too much and I needed something to get better gas mileage, so I had to sell it. I picked up a (crappy car, I'd go with '95 Golf, since that is what I have and could possibly show up in) that I've been using ever since.

Make sure you throw in a "Wow, this looks just like the one I had to sell when my little girl was on the way" and make DAMN sure you show picture of daughter to the wife. Better yet, bring her.

I've got cash in hand...

Lol. Reminds me of this ad that was pretty popular awhile back:

If you can get your wife there with you to back up the story and maybe throw in, "You were so heartbroken when you had to sell that car" and maybe a "Your dad earmarked that inheritance money just for this" it is even more effective.

Interesting idea. I tried just searching on "divorce" on the local Craigslist. Mostly got "no credit" car sales ads.

This seems like a reasonable family car. My old man would've said it's good for family strength and unity.
