Best line of the whole article:
"Despite the apparent ankle-slicing appearance of the front splitter, the nose of the car made it past pedestrian safety rules, whereas the air vents on flanks were deemed to present a 'head entrapment' hazard and now have to be covered by louvres."
But the SR4 runs on whisky!
Some of the rules they have human body to car body interactions are odd. What are the chances a head will get stuck in the side intakes? It might happen, but I am sure it will be sans body.
As for limited production cars in the US.. some states are more lenient than others. Here in NJ, a "kit car" like a lotus 7 clone has to comply with current emissions and safety.

here in FL, a replica only has to comply with the emmissions and safety standards of the year it most resembles; i.e. a locost registered as a 1957 lotus replica would be required to comply with the requirements from 1957
btw, when I saw the title of this thread I was expecting this

Wow, what a nice, sensible regulation that is .

Why isn't that a sensible regulation?
I was worried that would sound sarcastic .
I meant it sincerely...there's not enough similarly sensible regulations in the automotive world.
actually, many states are considering the same legislation...it was drafted by SEMA and is being passed state by state across the country. Most states already have legislators who back the bills. Call yours and tell them to sign on, too. If Nobody in your state is backing it, all you need to do is send a copy of the draft legislation to your local state senator/rep and convince them to introduce it as a bill...
I will have to pass that along to my local state Legislators. I would love to have a 7 Clone over my fiat
In Florida, there no emissions testing and no inspections. If you have a title, and insurance, you get tags, unless I have missed something.
Just found out that there is legislation to change the kit and speciality vehicle registration process. I need to do some writing

I admit that I cannot recall ever having been tested, but it is comforting to know that even if that changed, the loop hole has already been written for my datsun replica (...and other people's non-DD cars)

FYI- I believe the NJ Sema legislation hasn't moved at all since it was introduced in early 2010. It would be great if enough people got involved to finally get it approved.
Let's make it happen!
The Lead East event this week would seem a logical place for a petition!
