OK. You guys have a decent number of modified and or oddball cars... With the Miata being Exoceted (verbing weirds language) as early as next year I'm trying to look into some wheel options.

Is there a good way to shop for wheels by dimensions online? I mean diameter, width, offset, bolt pattern, bore (centering rings and such make this one a bit stranger), etc. Short of finding a car that will match what I need, do I have a better option?

TireRack damn sure doesn't want me to shop that way.

I have the same issue. Since tire rack claims to have the wheels all measured up to make sure calipers and rotor are clear for various applications, it might be worth calling and talking to the reps one-on-one. They may be able to help out that way. I have not tried it but that is what I plan to do once I use up the skinny tires on my project.

Discount Tire has the audacity to actually believe that if you are intelligent enough to be capable of narrowing down your selection by diameter, width, and bolt pattern, then you should be allowed to do so.

In my experience, if you contact Tire Rack directly, their customer service representatives are generally willing to perform said search on your behalf and email you the results.

Brakes are an issue as well, but I don't have a good answer for that.

They had exactly one option. It's on the list. If I end up going with it, I'm ordering it from them to thank them for providing me with the tool.

There's no real rush. I'm slow, so the build will take a long time, and I'll just be spacering (more verbing) the existing wheels for a while. But when the time comes I want to be able to browse my options if at all possible.

AIUI, Tire Rack doesn't have the dimensional search tools on the web site because they're worried about people ordering wheels that don't fit and then wanting to return them (or, worse, running them, dying, and then getting sued). But yeah, they're very helpful if you call them up and talk to someone on the phone.

For the specific question of an Exocet, I think you basically want "stance" Miata wheels. Miata bolt pattern, Miata diameters and widths, but less offset because the Excoet rear chassis is wider where the sidewalls want to be than the Miata is. ISTR that 949 Racing has an Exocet-oriented 6UL coming out soon.

I had the same problem years ago. I ended up googling what I wanted and seeing what came up. Rota, volk and ccw made what I needed.

Essentially correct. I know of a few options, including the ones you mention. I was trying to figure out a more useful way of exploring options than hearing about wheel XXX from somewhere which is how I know of the 6UL version.

I figured the question was general purpose enough that I didn't sweat the specifics other than as background. In reality new wheels are likely 2+ years out for me, so no big deal.

SIDETRACK: Build thread starting soon. Need to move some pics off of photobucket to rehost them somewhere before kicking off a thread here. Kit isn't' planned until next year, but Fox Suspension from Flyin Miata just arrived. WIll be going on in a few weeks (swamped currently)
