Bought a new daily today!!!
Drumroll please... It's a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300SDL!!!!
This time around, I've done things properly. $3100 purchase price, but it's pretty darn nice. Shiny paint. A/C works properly and blows ice cold. Drives great. 97,000 miles. 2nd Owner. Last guy just spent all the money rebuilding the trans and having the HVAC system replaced, which should mean I have a decent shot of some trouble-free miles before any major issues (fingers crossed).
I guess this means I didn't learn my lesson last time around, huh?
Awesome! Put some period correct AMG bits on it and suddenly there will be 2 guys in a Ferrari chasing you...
You should have bought a Mitsubishi
Nice score Tom, is it in Michigan or Florida? Which leads to the question of rust?
It's in Florida—hat tip to my dad for handling the deal for me. Looks brand new underneath.
And yes, I already have a set of 15x7 Ronal 5-spokes for it.
Sweet DD, just need to swap it out for a Honda Ute, I can offer a venue
You made one mistake, it isn't black.
So you're slowly turning into a Florida Retiree before you actually retire?
Cunning plan Mr. Suddard. Very cunning. They'll never see it coming.
Anyway, it looks good. Good luck with it!
That thing's sweet. The colour's a little uninspiring but it's in incredible shape.
What do the kids think, though?
We have a politically incorrect nick name for that color here in Florida. There is very little rust on this one. Tom can catch it if he doesn't wait. I am not as much a fan as Tom, but it does give him a big safe daily driver that still gets 25 mpg.
It has a trailer hitch too!
Actual photos were not as titillating as the title implied Britanny...I mean Tom...

I guess when your parents own and run race car magazines, an 80's beige merc is the perfect car for rebelling.
When I was a kid I thought if I ever had the chance to be a Somali warlord I would get one of them in black.
I like it. That's very low miles for a 28 year old car. Some AMG wheels would really set it off.

Nah, that's what the lifted truck is for.
As I said on Facebook, it's important to have a diverse palate when it comes to cars. Right now I have the Trooper, a Spitfire, a Focus SVT, and an E36 M3 awaiting an LS1 swap. Clearly, "giant luxobarge" was something missing from the driveway.
Man I just sold some wheels that would've been amazing on this car.

In reply to Tom Suddard:
So wise for one so (sorta) young.

JRG?
Yessir! A plate that said "JRG BENZ" would be hilarious, yet offensive and terrible.
You need one with a sunroof if you're ever going to do that homemade remake of Ronin.
How else will DeNiro launch that rocket?

I dig the trailer hitch. These motors don't have a ton of HP, but they have enough torque to pull a house (okay, maybe a small shed) off its foundation.
