I still want to get one of these.
There's an identical SDL I see driving around town from time to time. The driver is about 103 years old, and maybe 4' tall.
Just noticed the background in the first picture - a pair of Eurovans and some kind of sedan delivery vehicle!

Well, then. You know who you need to call next.
Very nice get. The 87s have a rep for cylinder head issues but I've heard about it more than I've seen it in real life. Nice price, too. MBZ diesels seem to command quite a premium over the gas cars of the same year. Will be watching intently for the day when this one gets rotated out of the fleet.
Yeah, as far as I can tell the head issues are overblown. Long story short, the heads are aluminum, and people are sad when they overheat their engines and crack the heads. Coming from sports cars, that seems like a pretty darn minor issue.
In reply to Tom Suddard: Didn't you just sell the same chassis diesel Mercedes last year or so?
That right. The 87s have the 603 engine which is a upgrade over the 617. Do some searching around for, "superturbodiesel" and Goran at Dieselmeken.

Okay, another question: What headunit for this car?
I'd like a fair bit of power, bluetooth calling, and iPhone control. Bonus points if it isn't ugly.
Shoot!
I will just put one suggestion, Crutchfield.com will have several selections available.
The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X399
It has all the features that you mentioned (I think), and it has a 5 band equalizer which makes the music sound better than the 3 band equalizer head units, IMO.
You can go with one that doesn't have a CD player if you don't use those anymore. Many of these are affordable; Most people must have moved to streaming music off their phones, chopping up demand for aftermarket head units.

That and head units being integrated into the rest of the dash.
Otherwise nice Benz.
Very nice!
I have a Blaukpunt Toronto 420BT on my 500SEL and it works great/its not too flashy. It has both bluetooth and a USB port.
If you have the factory radio and it works, I might be interested in it.
Here are some pictures of it
Oooooh, very nice. The car is all stock, right down to the original radio that works great. I'm not sure if I'm keeping it or not yet–if I do change the radio, I'll probably want to keep the stock one on the shelf.

Was talking with my reps at VDO earlier this summer. I think they are making just the radio for you: VDO DAB Radio with CD/USB/Bluetooth
There are a couple other options from them too.
HOLY SHET! THAT'S MY DREAM RADIO
THANK YOU
Aaaaaaaaaaand it's only sold in Germany. Of course.
In reply to Tom Suddard:
I'll drop a line to the VDO guys here in the states and get some info.
I'd be interested in that for my Datsun. Still looks right with the pair of knobs and a line of preset buttons.
Can they stop with the blue backlighting on headunits already?

Put me down for one too... That would match my W201 nicely.
Just a quick update. The guy at VDO I need to get hold of was on vacation this week. I should have an answer next week.
Bottom line - you got yourself a really nice car for the price. Everyone needs a comfy luxo cruiser. Congrats.

Update? I was serious about wanting one of those...
Sorry for the delay on an update. It's been nuts here, and multiple people I needed to get hold of were on vacation.
Just got off the phone with my VDO rep. He said they will have them in the US in about 4 weeks. When I get more details I'll post them. I probably should start another thread about them when I have the details.
Cool! Still interested; didn't realize these were so new!
