Took the head off the z car last night to investigate my coolant in the oil problem. Forgot to wedge something in the timing chain. Looks like I'm pulling the timing chain covers off and re-timing the motor. Or maybe I'll just pull the motor and do a complete re-seal. At this point all I'd really have to do is separate the engine/trans and pull the thing out. Gotta love 1970s technology. Not counting the plug wires I think I disconnected a total of 7 things to get the head off. Probably less than 30 bolts to remove the carbs/intake/exhaust/various other things.

I'm also beginning to doubt the quality of my 15k mile supposedly rebuilt motor. One of the headbolts was so loose it wasn't even touching the head. Felt like the rest of the bolts were never torqued. At least that explains the coolant in the oil...

edit: There really isn't a question or anything particularly interesting in this post. If you read it consider it an FYI about the goings on in my garage. I'm doing too many things today and just needed a break lol.

No problem......hope it all works out for you. It's strangely comforting knowing others have as many problems with their machines as I do.
