So ive had a trade offer on my miata roll bar. Most of you know that i built it for the challenge, and that there is no way to have a functional soft top with it. Hardtop only. After the challenge, this car will be an autocross and street toy only. Maybe hpde someday when the munchkin is out of the house and no longer dependent so much on my paycheck. But that YEARS from now.

Anyway, the offer is for a duece bar with the rear downtubes on the sides of the hoops.

My last street miata, i went with an ace as it was fuhrthest from my unhelmeyed head. This, according to the website, is the same height and an inch further back.

However, what is the real world downsides of this in my application? It looks like i can add a harness bar between the seatbelt towers for my 5 points, and aldo use factory seatbelts again as well for street use.

So, thoughts?

Probably going to be organization dependent whether it passes tech for HDPE events.  Otherwise, no real downsides I can think of.  I've always liked the "Cobra look" roll bars on a Miata.

Well, NASA calls out that the Duece is allowed with the center brace. (https://nasa-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/document/document/6336/Convertibles_List.pdf) It's not as well loved outside of NASA though.

Other than that, It's down to looks. I think they look a lot better than the other hard dogs. I don't like that they are the thinner metal though.

Thinner metal? I hadnt see that anywhere. Care to elaborate?

And great dog E36 M3 joke!!!!

Im slightly concerned about the lack of sanctioning body approval. Should i be? My main concerns are side impact structure  rollover protection, and unhelmeted head safety. ..
