Was walking around my favorite used car lot today, and among other very desireable cars/trucks/ and SUVs I found what I figured had to be the ends of the sedan spectrum...or at least Japanese sedan spectrum? $10K would buy either a '99 Camry (LE, I think) with the 4 cylinder/auto combo....painted silver, with just under 69K miles OR.... an '03 Maxima SE with a manual transmission, with just under 74K miles, painted black.

If I buy another car, I'm thinking it should be a 2 door, or a biggish sedan or truck, as I am having trouble getting in and out of my small car now. 2 candidates are a Solara or a Monte Carlo....with a Mustang also in contention.

The Monte stopped being relevant after 1988. At least the Maxima was a manual.

uhhhh... walking past an 03 3.5/manual maxima and then uttering anything related to: solara, monte carlo, or mustang will not get you far with this crowd

And honestly, i dont see how ANY of those is easier to get in and out of than a big ol maxima.

Ahem.

V6 5-speed Solara.

They exist. They're a riot.

It seems Japanese cars were available with manual transmissions more often than one might think. I have a co-worker who has a late-model (2002 or so?) Camry with a 5 spd. I had no idea such a beast existed.

If you are looking at bigish sedans, you have to look at the CTS

2003 Cadillac CTS - $10,995 w/ 71k miles

OR

2004 Cadillac CTS V-Series - $13,500 w/ 61k miles

I believe that has the 2azfe engine. You know.. the one that's also in the Scion tCs that they boost to the utter limits of hell and back.

One of my Friends has a late model Camry with 4cyl/5 spd. He bought it new. It was a special order, and took 6 weeks. He tells me he gets almost 700 km to a tank of gas with it.

A Camry with a manual transmission is NEARLY impossible to find. The Solara with the V6 and manual combo has been discontinued. IF, I thought about it, I'd go back and test drive the Maxima....just not sure I need all that car, so of course the CTS is out.

a 6sp 5.5 gen Maxima is an outstanding car. definitely go drive it. You might be able to resist it, but I couldn't.

I dunno if an 1988 Monte is all that relevant, it was more of a throwback to an earlier type of car stuck with a bunch of 80s emmision stuff.

And 10k for an eleven year old Toyota?

I got my 03 Mach 1 Mustang with 48k for 10700. Excellent condition and loaded. Most of the ones listed are higher, but if you look the deals are out there.

You're right...I'd walk right past the Maxima to the Mustang!

An Acura 3.2CL Type-S with the 6-speed is also not a bad idea.

They are on my radar. I need to haul two baby seats to daycare and back, what else can I get under $15k that will give me rear wheel drive, a LS6 with a 6 speed and brembos. I have not driven one yet, but I could not imagine buying a used Maxima or Acura without trying it out.

Looking at the GTO. Just sold a 2004 Audi A4 and lets just say that we will be staying away from used Audis for a while.

Edit - I meant G8, not GTO. I will need a 4 door. sorry about the thread jack.
