As icing on the cake, a friend has offered to sell me his MINT, black/leather/cloth Recaro's. He's asking 700.00.

I sat in them and they are sweet. All manual, etc..

I know i'll need a special bracket to mount them in the E30, etc..

Thoughts.... jump on them?

I've seen a few on fleabay between 450-900 bucks..

Suggestions

Thanks in advance!

how heavy are they? I have some "vader" sport seats for the E36.. even in manual form, I was surprised how heavy they are

Try to get some seat rail dimensions and then compare them to your current seat rails. If the Evo seat rails are too large, you might end up in a situation where you'll need to make custom brackets. The S13 240SX comes to mind, where part of the stock seat rails attach to the side of the transmission tunnel.

Also, do these seats have airbags in the side bolsters? Airbag-equipped seats are becoming more common. You might be able to save some weight if they are removed or you remove them yourself.

The seats are coming from an EVO MR/RS, which is the "stripped down" version of the EVO, ie, no airbags and all manual. I looked under them and no other connections, etc..

I tell you, the stock "comfort" leather seats I have in the E30 now are a beast. Anything will be lighter...

I've never seen any newer seats that actually look good in an E30.

I'm going to say no chance they'll fit without some serious bracket/tunnel fab. I own an Evo and an E30, but the E30 is not in the garage. So I can't directly compare at the moment.

Get some classic Recaros (not sport seats, even though they are cool). They can be had for $500 ish and are way better looking due to being more period correct for a street seat.

MK2 Volkswagen Recaros will nearly bolt in also, I think it's a $25 bracket kit.

Bummer about the air bags. I've seen air-bag versions installed in MINI's, so they would easily sell for more than $700 on a mINI site if they had air-bags. Not small seats.
