On my TV right now. This network. Nice Jag.
Did you know that movie is now 10 years old?!? A couple buddies of mine in NC put this event on for giggles yesterday:

6/22: Fast and the Furious - Special 10 year anniversary screening (Biltmore Square Mall) Do you live your life one quarter mile at a time? Have you done a wheelie and a burnout simultaneously? Ever double clutch while drag racing? Then come on out and celebrate the ten year anniversary of the release of The Fast and The Furious. Ten years ago this film defined a generation and forever changed the way we think about movies; along the way winning 6 Oscars, a Nobel Prize, and the Heisman trophy. Now it's back on the big screen, for one night only! When: Wednesday, June 22nd at 7:30 PM The movie runs until about 9:15. For those two hours or less, we're free. Where: Cinnebarre, Biltmore Square Mall What's the retail on one of those? Admission is free! But when/if we run out of seats that's it, so get here early. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, just make sure you arrive in time to get a seat. Will there be food? Yep. Beer too! But those aren't free. Sorry. Why are you doing this? Honestly, I'm not sure. It sounded like fun when I thought it up a few weeks ago, and I didn't want to have to wait another decade to do it. Any ulterior movies? Are you going to make money off of this somehow? What's in it for you? There's nothing in it for me other than watching The Fast and the Furious on the big screen. I don't really care if anybody else shows up, although it will be way more fun with an audience. There's absolutely no other agenda driving this event.

Heh, oh, THAT original. To be honest, I've never see it...sounds even worse than the more modern version.

I've got a dvd of this (the 56 year old one) that I found in the clearance bin at a Walgreens for a $1.
Several Jag 120's and other early Brit cars (MG TD, etc.). There's a great sequence at a "California Sports Car Race" that has a bunch of Ferraris and some 50's era specials and one-offs.
I even thought they did a pretty good job of using the toy Jag 120's for the crash scene. Laughable by today's standards, but not near as hokey as most films of this era. One of Roger Corman's first movies, shot in 9 days. Cool stuff.

ALL THE TIME!!

Now I realize how he fried the engine on the eclipse. When you run out of gears in a drag race starting at the beginning again is not the answer.

Uh-Oh. I hope the PO of my Talon didn't try to emulate that part of the movie...

Man that would be awesome if I lived closer
I can't believe it's really been 10 years since that movie came out, seems like it was yesterday.
I quote my buddy, Adam: "I granny-shift all the time, because my car has berkeleying syncros, now go kill yourself Vin Diesel."
I remember when we saw this in the theater early in the 2001 SPC Rally, and proceeded to make fun of it the rest of the event.
Actually, many of us never really stopped...
I know it's bad, but I still love the Vin Diesel one. It's a guilty pleasure, like Point Break.
Also, thanks for the link to the 50s version... I'm going to download that.
i'm with ya slowride... it's just a fun background noise type flick... also amusing to watch with non car guys around who act like they know something cause they've seen all the F&F flicks lol

Sure, those other cars are fine --- but for me it's all about the JOWETT JUPITER!!
If Wallace & Gromit ever go racing, THAT will be their ride!

Mmm, gawrsh, I don't remember the Jupiter. Sounds like an excuse to watch it again!
