[rant] just because a car was parked in a barn once, does not make it a "barn find". i just read a CL ad for a barn find Fiat X1/9. "Stored in a barn for a year, before that was in the corner of a body shop." berkeleying shiny happy person. [/rant]

I sometimes think they mean they used the car as a barn.

I've found a couple like that, cars that have been in garages for all but the last few years of their lives do not count as barn finds.

I'd also like to know why people seem to think the term "barn find" means they can tack another 2 grand+ to the asking price.

QFT. Somebody's old mistreated heap they've left under a shed on their own property for 20yrs isn't a "barn find", it's a mess. I just hate that so many of those end up going to the crusher because the owner won't take what it's really worth. They seem to ask unrealistic prices, and then let it go to the "We Buy Junk Cars" people when they can't sell it. Grrrrr.

Really, just because that rusted out demon had a 340 in that empty space under the hood at one point, doesn't mean that thing is worth 6 grand.

Especially that if the 340's gone..the numbers won't match, ever again. I think a lot of the "wannabe" collectors forget (or just don't know) that real restorers care about that stuff..

Or the people with junkers that are only good for swaps or parts.

I don't understand the people who can't see that the car they're selling will never hit the road again, unless you drop waaaaaay more than the car will ever be worth.

Especially when it's a pile to begin with, I can understand a rare car like a ferrari or some one of one car, but when people do it with random almost muscle cars and crap they "tuned" up I want to burn down one of their buildings out of spite.

Last time I found a barn, some guy with no teeth started shooting at me.

I concur. Not all barn finds are good either. This sat in a dirt floor barn for 10 years and was rotten. The thick layer of chicken poop dust didn't make it any better.
