I've seen a few references to adding extra oil to the sump on some cars that see extended time on a track. I wonder if anyone has more to shed on the topic -- I always thought too much oil was as bad as too little. Thoughts?

to much can be a bad thing if car is idleing or runing slowly the oil get whiped up in to long chains that grab on to the crank, BUT if you at high speed and cornering and the oil tends to slide out to the side and up the inside of the block you need the extra oil to make sure the pick up stays under oil. Over filling by 1/2 to 1 quart is just a crutch that most racers use cause some dumb a$$ rules will not allow baffled pans. Like a pan makes power....
