Possibility there's still some air trapped in the system. I try to fill my rads on a hill with the rad being the highest point. When you refilled the rad, did you turn the heat control all the way up to fill the heater core?

"no pressure built up" ? As the coolant temp rises there should be pressure built up. If not the radiator cap is bad.

As hoses get old they get soft. Could be the hose is collapsing. Rare but i have seen it happen. There usually is a coil to prevent collapse
