I remember when that ad came out. I was 13 and my parents were in the market for a new car to replace the 2 door Cutlass Calais we had. Had to be four doors, and had to be moderately sporting. I pimped that car to my parents so hard.....and they bought a 3.3 Intrepid.

Not that the intrepid was a bad car, or anything. It handled great, had a commodious backseat (as I would find out in a couple of years), and was very nice on the highway....but man. What a missed opportunity.

Can't be. I heard they're slow and heavy and dumb.

HappyAndy wrote: This leads me to two P71 related questions. 1) what are the main mechanical differences between a P71 and std CV? 2) can anything be done to improve the steering feel on theses things? The power steering was so grossly over boosted that it felt like steering by wireless remote control. Maybee cops and old men like it like that, but I don't think that I could come to terms with it.

I would speculate the p71's are a tad lighter due to less crap. I know mine tipped the scales a hair under 4000lbs. I went from an e36 to my p71 so I hear ya on the steering thing. Supposedly the 03 and up is better. I couldn't say from experience. Mine isn't good, but it's not light either. I wonder that the civilian model takes less effort. I'll look into that and let you know.

Any additional bracing/seam welding done on the P71s? I know a lot of the older police cars had these.

never seen any evidence. I can tell you the steel wheels can take a curb nicely and the ride height is a tad higher.

blower won't fit under the hood, which is why the marauder only got the 5.4 and not the blower. of course that doesn't mean you couldn't throw a turbo or two at it.

Didn't Kenne Bell make a blower for the Marauder?

It was a different company, not Kenne Bell, and it was a Centrifugal.

Trilogy was the big name. I've never heard of Kenny Brown doing a Marauder...

for as many mustang kits as there are out there, it doesn't seem like you'd have to be very smart to fit the hardware to a crownvic does it? what am I missing?

Man that article reminded me how slow Marauders are. My cheap-as-dirt modded P71 is .7 seconds quicker in the 1/4!

I had to research the "Lounge Lizard" that article talked about and found this:

http://www.geocities.com/crown_vic84/Lounge_Lizard.html

To give you an idea of just how anemic the pre-2001 CV's are (NON-Performance Improved motor, aka the NPI, as found in 96-98 Mustang GT's and all CV/MGM's through 2000) they stuck a blower on it and only got 355HP and 14.6's. That's only .2 faster than my N/A PI 4.6 that's a 130K mile stocker with a CAI, tune, and cat-back.

Here's the Trilogy Marauder I was thinking of:

http://www.trilogymotorsportsstore.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=4W33-030407-AA

As you can see it IS a roots blower that fits under the stock hood (on a DOHC no less). It's also $3,745 more than I payed for my whole car...

I wonder if Kenny Brown is still in business. That address is about 20 minutes from me at most....
