Bobzilla seems to know more about the Korean cars than the average bear---- perhaps he (or someone else can help)

My mother has a 08 Azera---- 60k miles, always garaged, never wrecked, driven by a 70 year old lady since brand new. Within the last couple of weeks, her passenger side power seat mechanism failed (will recline, but no back and forth movement), and now her trunk button has failed as well, forcing her to use the key to open. A while back her seat memory function quit.......functioning.

None of these problems seem related to one another, besides them failing all within a relatively short amount of time. There isn't a module that controls / connects these functions is there? She's out of warranty, and looking to fix without bringing it to the dealer. (dealer sucks-- terrible service-- she doesn't trust them)

Any help is appreciated!

Can Bus??? I wonder if it is something like a BCM that is going bad or the wiring to it. Completely guessing here on my part but it is what comes to mind first.

that was my first thought. I think the Azera and 06 Sonata were the first Hy/Ki to get the CAN setup. with that said, grounds were a weak point on many of the early 2000's cars so that would be where I'd start if taking it in to a shop is not an option.

Thanks!

Taking it to a shop is an option, she's just been very unhappy with the Hyundai dealer, and my folks don't have a trusted indy shop, as they both generally drive pretty new cars. (under warranty) They are in the Jacksonville area---- so I'll put my feelers out and find someone decent.

She's not going back to the dealer---- that's for sure. It's a shame, as she likes the car well enough, but hates the dealer. Next time she buys, it won't be a Hyundai for that reason alone.

I appreciate the input guys!

The seat switches are very common to stop working in one direction. I've replaced several of those. Those three items are not related or on a CAN line. If you pop the switch off the seat you'll see there is a separate circuit for each seat motor function.

The trunk switch is also most likely the switch. You can pull the switch out, pop the back cover off, and clean the black crud off the contacts with some 1500 grit sandpaper and you'll be good to go.

On the memory seat, they were always "iffy" even when new. Check the owners manual and make sure all the door switches are in the right position including the mirror selector switch. I can't remember all the combinations right now but the owners manual has it listed.

If you dig into it let me know. I can look up the wiring diagram and guide you through it.

AA Automotive on Richard St does all of my employer's fleet work and I've used them for some personal stuff when I didn't want to deal with it. I think Joe is still the service manager and their number is 904-739-9977. Address is 6034 Richard St. 32216.
