Item in question are motorcycle wheels. I need to know pros and cons. I have ZERO knowledge or experience with either one of these. Durability is more important to me than perfectly matching whatever color I choose. Down time is not a issue. What say the Hive?

Powder coat: Tougher to damage, tougher to clean, tougher to fix.

Paint: Easier to damage, easier to clean, easier to fix.

Both will cause trouble if put on the mating surface between the wheel and the hub, especially powder coat, so mask that off.

I probably coat 25 sets of motorcycle wheels per year. Powder is as easy to clean and care for as paint and is much more durable than paint. There are roughly 6500 colors so you should be able to look at the color selection at your powder coaters shop and find a color to suit you.

part of the reason that powder coating lasts so well is because it's prepped so well. I've found that a sand blast, followed by a good epoxy primer, then quality color coat will last extremely well. It's a spec that I got from a shipyard. They're sending their products into a high humidity, salty environment which will eat anything second rate up in short order.

A pro will be doing the wheels, Be it paint or Powder coat. And I don't know for sure what the material is. The powder coat guy told me over the phone that as long as its metal he can coat it no problem. He also told me I have to remove the tires (duh) and all bearings. Thanks guys for the Learn Me, I am pretty sure I'm going to powder coat

Wasn't there just a thread on here about how powder coating can potentially damage aluminum wheels? I believe the context had something to do with 949 Racing and Miata wheels. 949 Racing voids the warranty on any powder coated wheel, but keeps the warranty on painted wheels. Not sure if that has any relevance in the 2 wheeled world, but just wanted to put it out there.
