A 1998 Arrows goes to a track day at Zolder. It passes a Radical on the straight like my 370awHP STi passes a stock NA Miata. Some of the cars are passed so quickly I can't tell what they are at 480 resolution.

I wonder how much it cost to run a car like that for a session? Surely maintenance and consumables add up quickly on something that expensive when new.

Makes me think of cars 2 when all the cars are from different disciplines on the same track, and makes me wonder if they were to run a real wgp, what would be ideal.

Did a track day at Pocono a few years back in my Miata. One of the participants had a rebodied, 73 Gurney Eagle with a stock block Chevy motor. My car shook when he went by, it was great. He had wheel spin part of the way down the straight.
That would be awesome to see live. Just think of how much it would surprise the Mini drivers. All alone for a lap and then BOO@M!!! F1 car on your tail!. LOL

I can't see how there would be anything boring about driving that car.
Maybe boring isn't the right word as much as frustrating is. You never get a clean lap, and your best time is still 5-8 secs off the potential because of it.
After watching that video I am wondering what it would look like if Present day F1 car V.S. the 10 year old F1 car. I am thinking the 10 year old F1 car will pass it on the straight.

The 10 year old F1 (2004 season) car has like 200hp more and runs about 4sec / lap faster around Monza.

Was thinking the same thing. I love how he gets annoyed when the car in front didn't see him flying up 100mph faster in to the corner.

The 2004 Ferrari does. The 2001 Arrows in the video does not, especially since the motor is likely heavily detuned to increase the life. :)
But yeah, the FIA changes the rules to keep F1 cars at roughly the same speed. If they didn't do that, the cars would quickly become too fast to be safe on the existing tracks.
As for the video -- while it's certainly cool to see an "old" F1 car out at the track, it does seem kind of silly to take it out and beat up on a bunch of minis...

My neck hurts after watching those shifts, man that guy must be beat to E36 M3 when he gets out of the car.
And the dude was totally parking it in the corners too. Within my SCCA run group I've seen a disparity between fastest and slowest lap times of up to 20+ seconds a lap. When you're in the fast one and encounter a car going that much slower they are essentially a stationary object.
Speed differentials seem pretty unsafe, but still an entertaining video.
car39, I think I know the guy with the Gurney Eagle. He does some hillclimbs in PA, and has had a bunch of other fast/fun open wheel cars.
